Retail Manager: Capilano Golf and Country Club - West Vancouver, BC

Capilano Golf & Country Club, a private facility located in West Vancouver, 15 minutes from the downtown core, is seeking the services of an Assistant/ Apprentice Golf Professional to join the Golf Operations team.

Capilano is a premiere member’s golf club established in 1938 and consistently ranked in the top 10 courses in Canada. Recently awarded the Distinguished Clubs award by The Board Room Magazine, currently, there are only 3 Golf Clubs that have this designation in Canada.

The members of Capilano are constantly looking to invest in both their staff and facilities which has seen the undertaking of a new $8 million Golf Operations facility and 1st Tee project in the winter of 2022/23.

Job Summary

With the new Pro Shop and Operations facility due to open in the Spring/Summer of 2023, the Retail Manager will be responsible for providing a memorable retail experience to the Members and guests of Capilano Golf and Country Club each day to a standard that complements the new facility and stature of the club.

The retail experience is an important part of the operation, and the successful candidate should be engaging, organized, a team player, and hungry to develop and progress within their career in the retail industry.

Responsibilities

Leadership

• A strong retail professional who is ready to help guide the less experienced Golf Operations staff in retail best practices

• Is vocal and chooses to lead by example

• Ability to delegate, set expectations, and monitor the progress of all direct reports.

Retail and merchandising

• Lead in the purchasing of new industry-leading merchandise for the golf shop

• Look to provide new and innovative retail experiences and events for the membership

• Manage inventory counts.

• Look to improve and evolve the retail offerings every year

• Revenue management experience

• Be active in trying to promote sales within the golf shop through sales and promotions.

• Visual merchandising skills and experience a must

• Be proactive in the growth of the corporate retail business.

• Must be current on all merchandise.

• Oversee inventory levels by working closely with vendors.

• Ensure routine cleaning maintenance of the shop occurs

• Provide Retail buying plans and sell-through strategies.

• Meet sales goals by training, motivating, mentoring, and providing feedback to Golf Shop staff Work Conditions

• Extended periods of standing, and other physically demanding conditions

• Lifting, moving, or manipulating objects up to 40 kilograms

• Flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays

• Interaction with customers/clients, and the public at large

• Operation of desktop computer and peripherals

• Fast-paced work environment

• Occasional overtime

Qualifications

The overall attributes regarding character and career goals for the successful applicant in the Retail Manager position include but are not limited to:

• Experience in retail management (Golf preferred)

• Expertise in retail store operations

• Proven ability to build and lead high-performing retail team operations

• Strong business acumen

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• A real desire to excel and create service standards second to none and go the extra step.

• Excellent interpersonal skill set to interact effectively and communicate clearly well with membership and fellow staff.

• Present yourself in a professional manner at all times.

• Strong organizational skills
