Job Summary

Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Operations and Chief Executive Officer in this role, your responsibilities as the Managing Director of Education will be to work collaboratively to manage, support, and implement the strategic and operational requirements of the organization while managing an energetic and passion team of full time staff and contractors within the department.

Job Purpose:

The PGA of Canada’s education department has been viewed as delivering world class programs and education services amongst PGA’s globally the sport organizations domestically. We are seeking an experienced and progressive individual to continue this momentum and place the PGA of Canada as a world leader in all realms of adult education.

Responsibilities

The Managing Director of Education is responsible for the development and implementation of all educational and professional development products, services and activities. The Managing Director of Education works on a variety of projects simultaneously, working front line with PGA of Canada members and Zone offices. This is a key position that requires innovation, energy, multi-tasking and the ability to work in collaboration with a diverse mixture of membership, staff and outside contacts. Excellent communication, an understanding of adult learning principles, project management, public speaking, customer service and facilitation skills are strong requirements of the position.

  • Building relationships with PGA members is a central part of the Managing Director of Education. Member communication activities may involve keeping members informed of the education opportunities, making members aware of association education and professional development programs, and enhancing the Association’s mandate as a “knowledge-based” association
  • Oversee the PGA of Canada’s Training Academy program - a member education platform housed on a Learning Management System which includes more than 30 different courses (from e-learning, in person, virtual, blended learning, etc)
  • Directly responsible for the performance, objectives, and projects of department’s full time and part time (contract) staff
  • Develop, implement, and manage the department’s budget
  • Manage the content development of the associations professional development platform (Tee Talks PD, Tee Talks Live National Conference)
  • Works with related departments to scan the PGA of Canada environment, using both formal and informal research techniques to identify those issues that may have either a positive or negative effect on the organization. The Managing Director of Education helps manage the PGA’s response to those issues.
  • Liaison with member associations in the development and management of player and coach education programming (Coaching Association of Canada, National Golf Course Owners Association, Golf Canada, Golf Canada, First Tee Canada, Special Olympics Canada)
  • The Managing Director of Education shall initiate contact with world leaders in the field of sport science research and maintain relationships in order to facilitate the dissemination of the most current research relevant to members of the PGA and their careers
  • Manages the entire coaching certification project, including liaison with the Coaching Association of Canada and Golf Canada. Goals, objectives, strategies, tactics, budgets and timelines related to Coaching Certification development are all handled by the Managing Director of Education.
Qualifications
  • A strong understanding of the Canadian sport system and non-profit sector
  • Minimum 5 years leading people
  • Experience in managing a budget
  • Experience in a membership based association
  • Knowledge and experience in adult learning
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work and communicate in a team atmosphere
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • Bilingualism (French & English) an asset
  • Valid passport and driver's license
Compensation
Compensation will be determined based off experience and skills of selected candidate
