Head Professional: Big Sky Golf Club

Big Sky Golf Club opened in 1994, originally designed by Robert Cupp; is a semi-private, 7000-yard golf course, laid out on 190 acres at the base of 8,000-foot Mount Currie in the Pemberton Valley.

Big Sky is known as a premier golf championship course in the Sea to Sky corridor and British Columbia. Annually ranked in Canada’s Score Golf magazine rankings among other accolades, Big Sky has also hosted many regional, provincial, and national events in its history, most recently the Men’s Canadian Senior Amateur Championships in 2023. Big Sky Golf Club acknowledges that we are on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the  L'ilwat7úl (Lil’wat) ̓ Nation.

Job Summary
We are seeking an energetic, service driven, passionate Head Golf Professional to lead our golf operations. The successful candidate will be member and guest focused, having first-hand experience in delivering exceptional customer service above all. Our mission is to build a team and create an environment of exceptional people delivering an exceptional experience.
Responsibilities

• The Head Golf Professional, reporting to the General Manager, is responsible for the successful and efficient operation of the golf operations department.

• Be an integral member of the senior management team.

• Manage golf operations, including golf shop sales and merchandise, practice facilities, teaching, and coaching programs.

• Recruiting, hiring, training, and scheduling of all golf operations team members, monitor and evaluate performance.

• Create, lead, and manage a young team of Associate and Assistant Professionals, Guest Services, Starters and Golf Shop staff.

• Mentor and retain key members of the golf operations team.

• Direct and organize all golf activities including member, corporate tournaments, and larger groups (Golf Genius experience is an asset).

• Management and awareness of golf cart fleet levels, conditions, and scheduled maintenance.

• Implement policies and procedures established senior management team.

• Coordinate and communicate with Superintendent to discuss ongoing maintenance, events, and course conditions.

• Devote a reasonable amount of time to play golf with members of all skill levels.

• Maintain a visible presence within the golf operations.

• Financial management of the golf operations budget, including its preparation, explanation, and implementation.

• Take corrective actions as necessary to help assure that budget goals are attained.

• Collect, organize, and interpret weekly, monthly, and annual statistics on golf-course revenue and rounds played.

• Approve time worked for all golf operations staff; training of timecard software (Payworks).

• Work together with other department managers to ensure important information is communicated, ensuring all guest and member satisfaction at events and on a day-to-day basis.

• Promote a safe workplace by ensuring all staff perform their duties in a safe manner in compliance with all health and safety legislated requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment.

• Enhance the reputation and the image of the Club.

• Represent the Club in PGA of BC tournaments, education seminars, as required.

• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

• Class “A” Golf Professional with the PGA of Canada and member in good standing.

• Minimum two years experience as a Head Golf Professional or Associate Golf Professional at a golf club.

• Has a passion, and willingness to serve. Dedicated to providing exceptional service to all members and guests.

• Inspired leader who can direct and hold their team accountable.

• Organized, efficient and detail oriented.

• Excellent communication skills with an ability to problem solve and ensure customer satisfaction.

Compensation

• Salary Range of $60,000 - $65,000
