Founded in 1873, The Royal Montreal Golf Club is the oldest golf club in North America and a  proud steward of the game’s rich traditions. Job Summary
The Head Golf Professional at The Royal Montreal Golf Club is a key member of the Senior  Management Team, working closely with the General Manager & Secretary, Course and  Property Manager, Treasurer, Food and Beverage Manager, and Maître d’. Together, this  leadership group delivers a world-class experience for Members and guests, aligned with the  Club’s vision and standards of excellence. As the senior-most professional in golf operations, the  Head Golf Professional oversees the full management and delivery of all golf-related services  and programs, including the Pro Shop, retail operation, golf instruction, tournament operations,  practice areas, back shop services, and overall Member engagement in the game. This role is  expected to lead with integrity, deliver exceptional service, develop high-performing teams, and  maintain a strong presence and connection with the Membership. 
Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Team Management 

  • Recruit, lead, train, and motivate a diverse team of Professionals, Starters, Golf  Coordinators, Golf Services, and Pro Shop staff. 
  • Make sound personnel decisions and foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and  continuous improvement. 
  • Provide coaching and professional development to ensure service standards and Club  expectations are met. 

2. Member Service & Visibility 

  • Maintain a highly visible, approachable, and Member-first presence.
  • Build strong relationships through exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Respond promptly to Member needs, concerns, and feedback on golf services and  instruction. 
  • Represent the Club with professionalism and diplomacy internally and externally.

3. Golf Operations & Program Management 

  • Plan and execute diverse golf events, tournaments, and instructional programs. 
  • Deliver inclusive, engaging instruction for all skill levels; competitive playing ability is  an asset. 
  • Demonstrate proven teaching skills and a successful record of player development. 
  • Manage all aspects of golf operations, including tee times, practice facilities, and overall  experience.
  • Experience with Golf Genius, GGGolf, and Jonas is an asset. 

4. Retail & Merchandise Management 

  • Proven experience in Pro Shop merchandising, vendor relations, inventory control,  pricing, and visual presentation. 
  • Deliver an exceptional retail experience tailored to Member needs and preferences.

5. Financial Acumen 

  • Skilled in budgeting, forecasting, and cost control for golf operations, retail, carts, and  related services. 
  • Balance revenue generation with cost containment to meet Club goals.

6. Strategic Collaboration 

  • Partner with the Captain, General Manager, and Board Committees on golf initiatives.
  • Participate in Committee meetings, offering insight and recommendations.
  • Maintain open communication to support a unified management approach.

7. Facilities & Equipment Oversight  

  • Ensure top condition of all golf facilities, including Pro Shop, Back Shop, cart fleet,  practice areas, and offices. 
  • Oversee maintenance and timely equipment replacement. 

8. Professionalism & Industry Engagement 

  • Uphold the highest standards of conduct, attire, and etiquette. 
  • Maintain active PGAC membership to support professional growth and Club reputation. 
Qualifications
  • PGA of Canada Class “A” Professional.  
  • Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in a leadership role at a premier private or  elite semi-private golf club.  
  • Demonstrated success in retail operations, golf instruction, tournament planning, and  team development.  
  • Strong communication and public relations skills, with the ability to represent the Club  confidently and professionally in a variety of settings.  
  • Proven golf playing ability and teaching effectiveness, evidenced by competitive background and successful student outcomes.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills. 
  • Proven initiative and ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Familiarity with golf management systems and point-of-sale technology (Jonas,  Pacesetter, Golf Genius and GGGolf considered an asset).  
Compensation
Base salary range $180,000 to $200,000

  •  Combined Pro Shop retail profit sharing and Performance Bonus (max potential): $48,750
