Head Golf Professional: Legends on the Niagara

Legends on the Niagara is a busy 45-hole public golf facility located in a premier tourism destination. Featuring two championship golf courses Battlefield & Ussher’s Creek designed by Canada’s leading architects Douglas Carrick and Thomas McBroom. The facility is further complimented by the Niagara Performance Center offering club fitting services, instructional programming, a 9-hole short course and a unique 45-acre practice facility with target greens and short game areas. A full clubhouse with meeting and banquet facilities capable of accommodating 500 guests. Legends on the Niagara has hosted many professional and competitive amateur events including the 2004 Women’s Canadian Open, the 2014 Canadian Junior Boys Championship and most recently the Canada Summer Games competitions.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Director, Golf Operations, the Head Golf Professional is responsible for managing the day-to-day Legends on the Niagara 45-hole golf operations. An integral part of the senior management team, the individual will promote an enthusiastic professional atmosphere focused on providing exceptional guest experiences through a visible leadership style. The Head Professional will play a key role in achieving the strategic business objectives within Golf Operations. Performs administrative duties related to managing and overseeing all internal golf departments. Ensures sound policies are understood, implemented and adhered to while maintaining a high level of customer service. Operates efficiently to meet or exceed the acceptable standards of the NPC management and Commission.
Responsibilities

SUPERVISION

  • Manages, supervises, and supports the golf department supervisors and employees to ensure policies and procedures meet the appropriate employee and customer service standards.
  • Works directly with staff to inspire and foster a positive and efficient work environment across the entire golf operations team, golf shop, event coordinator, golf academy, club fitting, guest services, practice facility and reservations.
  • Performs staff scheduling, monitoring of labour expenses, recruitment, coaching, training, performance management and completing annual performance evaluations.

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Manages the point of sale / reservation technology solution in collaboration with the supplier.
  • Provides training to employees and guests that have technical issues that require troubleshooting with POS system.
  • Set-up yearly tee sheets and rate updates for all NPC Golf point of sale systems and 3rd party online booking portals
  • Ensures internal policies and practices are followed for golf-related business working with other departments across The Niagara Parks Commission, Health & Safety, Procurement, Revenue Office, Marketing, Information / Technology, Engineering, etc.
  • Manage, track, implement, the All-Access golf programs.
  • Formulates and implements programs related to tournament events and group bookings
  • Assists the Director of Golf with strategic planning initiatives, partnerships, research, stays relevant with the latest industry trends and technologies.
  • Provides input with the annual operating budget, monthly reconciliation and Capital planning.
  • Prepares drafts or updates Golf Department policies, procedures and other related information as directed and reviewed by the Director of Golf for approval.
  • Participates in departmental meetings to evaluate operational issues, provides input and makes recommendations to promote continuous improvement.
  • Procures golf shop retail inventory, shop layout, merchandising, coordinates retail merchandise inventory audits, monitors stock levels, prepares reports and analysis of merchandise sales, makes recommendations.
  • Manages and records daily sales and conducts reconciliation procedures with established polices in collaboration with the NPC Revenue Department.
  • Revenue Office point of contact for all NPC Golf courses; assists and implements accounting requirements along with reporting and support.

SALES AND MARKETING

  • Collaborates with the senior team to develop marketing initiatives to maximize revenue and through yield management practices
  • Ensures all terms and conditions in the golf event contracts are communicated and implemented.
  • Provide direct sales and marketing for the Golf Department including online inquiries and call-in quotes; previous events, prospects and contacts event leads to promote future use of the facility maintains current customer client base from all tournament groups.
  • Assists NPC Sales and Marketing Department to attract new events; negotiates rates and incentives in accordance with approved recommendations.
  • Supports and maintains the NPC Golf mobile App for Niagara Parks Golf including push notifications to customers for current news, upcoming specials and promotions.
  • Assists the Marketing Department with research and development of the NPC Golf website including yearly changes to rates and facility information, rates cards, signage, online updates and monthly customer database communications.

OPERATIONAL

  • Maintains sound professional communication with guests, management, employees and suppliers.
  • Works closely with Accounts Receivable to cross-reference and approve invoices.
  • Assist with implementing grow-the-game initiatives and junior programs.
  • Provides professional advice on club fitting and merchandise selection.
  • Provides and maintains overall customer service satisfaction and cross-promotes other Niagara Parks properties.
  • Ensures the general housekeeping standards of the golf shops are maintained daily.
  • Assists with Culinary Services function meetings related to area of responsibility.
  • Attend internal/external meetings to represent the department or NPC as required by the Director, Golf Operations.

PERFORMS OTHER RELATED DUTIES

  • Provides daily hands-on support as required for all golf operations including: processing transactions, answering customer inquiries, assisting with guest services functions, etc.;
  • Assists with a variety of other Golf Department duties as required;
  • As assigned.
Qualifications
  • Class “A” Golf Professional Member of the PGA of Canada in good standing.
  • Extensive knowledge of golf operations and industry best practices with a passion to deliver outstanding guest service in a public environment.
  • Previous leadership experience with a strong understanding of the industry, tee sheet management, technology, tournaments, operations, events, retail, sales, marketing, golf academy, club fitting and customer support.
  • Effective leadership skills with a strong focus on accountability while mentoring and motivating employees.
  • Strong computer, business, administration and organizational skills, able to multitask based on shifting priorities.
  • Excellent verbal, communication and written skills with the ability to effectively address challenges related to operational matters and guest relations.
  • Must be able to work extended business hours based on the operational requirements of the business.

Experience

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ managerial experience as a Head Professional or Associate in a leadership role with relevant communication and technical skills.
Compensation
Niagara Parks offer a salary of $87,768.86 to $104,832.76 per annum for this position.
