Fairwinds Golf Club is an 18-Hole Semi-Private facility which is located on Vancouver Island, BC in Nanoose Bay just 20 minutes north of Nanaimo. Fairwinds Golf Club services 350 members, public golfers and many golf events and tournaments. Our full-service golf shop specializes in custom club fittings, member services, merchandising, golf lessons and tournaments.

Job Summary
Fairwinds Golf Club is seeking the employment of a Head Professional to manage all day-to-day activities related to the golf operations and will work directly with the Director of Operations. The candidate should possess a background in business and marketing, have knowledge of the game of golf and deliver excellent customer service. The candidate must have excellent organizational and communication skills and must be able to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends. The candidate must be self motivated, show initiative and be able to work both independently and as a team.
Responsibilities
  • To ensure proficient operation of the Fairwinds Golf Club activities and business development
  • Be an integral member of the management team
  • Manage golf operations, including the pro shop, practice areas, teaching and coaching programs, recruitment, hiring and training of all employees, scheduling, signage, monitor work and evaluates performance
  • Lead, manage and inspire a strong team of Associate and Assistant Professionals, Starters, Service Staff and Pro-Shop staff
  • Mentor and retain key members of the golf operations team
  • Direct and organize all golf activities including member, corporate and charity tournaments
  • Implement policies and procedures established by the Director of Operations and or ownership
  • Maintain a visible presence within the golf operations
  • Financial management of the golf operations budget, including its preparation, explanation, and implementation
  • Takes corrective actions as necessary to help assure that budget goals are attained
  • Collect, organize, and interpret weekly, monthly, and annual statistics on golf-course revenue and rounds played
  • Work together with other department managers to ensure important information is communicated, ensuring member satisfaction at all events and on a day-to-day basis
  • Work together with club committees and subcommittees and/or club chair as required
  • Promote a safe workplace by ensuring all staff perform their duties in a safe manner in compliance with all health and safety legislated requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment
  • Enhance the reputation and the image of the Club
  • Represent the Club in PGA tournaments as required
  • Maintain communications with the Superintendent on tournament preparation and or course closures and oversee and coordinate the maintenance of cart fleet
  • Develop marketing initiatives with our marketing team to increase membership and overall revenue.
  • Responsible for overall scheduled building maintenance
  • Perform other duties and assist in the development of special capital projects as assigned
Qualifications

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Excellent communication, people and time management skills
  • Computer skills to include knowledge of work processing, spreadsheets, email platforms, social media
  • Strong understanding of the game of golf, rules, tournament/league formats, golf etiquette and golf equipment.
  • Problem solving and decision-making abilities
  • Excellent human relation skills to foster good relationships with staff and members

Qualifications

  • Class “A” Golf Professional with the PGA of Canada and member in good standing
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Experience in organizing golf events and an understanding of club fittings
  • A strong business acumen required to manage annual operating and capital budgets and retail operations
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, Club Prophet or other equivalent programs
Compensation
  • Competitive Salary based on experience ($65,000-$75,000)
