The semi-private course plays to a par 72 and stretches to approximately 6,900 yards from the back tees, with five sets of tee markers that accommodate golfers of varying skill levels. It is carved through the scenic woodlands and natural terrain of the March Highlands, featuring water hazards, elevation changes, and lush fairways that offer both challenge and enjoyment. The club provides a full range of amenities, including a driving range, practice greens, golf lessons, leagues, event facilities, and a clubhouse with dining and banquet services, and is a public golf course with a limited amount of members.

Job Summary

The Head Golf Professional plays a pivotal role in delivering an exceptional golf experience at a premium public facility. This position is responsible for leading golf operations with professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to service excellence. Acting as a key ambassador for the club, the role ensures that all aspects of the Pro Shop, staffing, merchandising, tournaments, and guest interactions reflect the high standards expected by clientele.

The position requires representing the golf facility with the highest level of professionalism, ensuring that all interactions reflect the standards expected at a premium public venue. The incumbent leads by example in attitude, appearance, punctuality, and work ethic, fostering a team culture built on respect, accountability, and exceptional service.

Responsibilities

Pro Shop Management

  • Ensures the Pro Shop operates seamlessly each day, opening and closing on schedule while maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming environment.
  • This includes overseeing staff interactions to deliver professional, personalized service and managing all operational processes such as point-of-sale systems, tee sheet scheduling, cash handling, and reporting.
  • Additionally, the position is responsible for retail management, including purchasing apparel, accessories, and equipment, maintaining strong vendor relationships, and staying current with industry trends.
  • The incumbent will design premium merchandising displays, monitor inventory levels, implement pricing and markdown strategies, and analyze sales performance to optimize profitability and enhance the overall guest experience.

Staffing, Scheduling and Supervision

  • Oversees the recruitment, training, and supervision of Pro Shop and back-shop staff, ensuring all team members deliver exceptional service and adhere to operational standards.
  • Responsibilities include creating efficient weekly schedules, providing ongoing coaching, conducting performance evaluations, and resolving conflicts when necessary.
  • The incumbent ensures staff are well-trained in customer service, POS systems, upselling techniques, and safety protocols, while maintaining adequate coverage during peak periods.

Tournament and Corporate Event Management

  • Leads the planning and execution of tournaments and corporate events, working closely with the General Manager and various organizers to finalize details and ensure flawless delivery.
  • Responsibilities include preparing all event materials, coordinating with Food & Beverage for seamless integration, and managing day-of logistics such as cart staging, registration, signage, and scoring.
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for organizers, the incumbent ensures exceptional guest service, timely problem-solving, and accurate post-event reporting.

Member and Guest Experience

  • Maintaining strong relationships with members and guests is a key accountability of this role.
  • The incumbent addresses concerns promptly and professionally, promotes programs such as lessons, clinics, and junior initiatives, and ensures tee sheet integrity and pace-of-play standards.
  • By delivering personalized service and fostering a welcoming environment, the position enhances the overall experience for all players.

Operational and Administrative Duties

  • Supports the financial and operational goals by assisting with budget monitoring (for example, labor costs) and managing departmental expenses responsibly.
  • Additional responsibilities include ensuring compliance with workplace policies and safety guidelines, and overseeing the maintenance of Pro Shop equipment and technology.

Additional Expectations

Flexibility and availability during peak season, including weekends and early mornings, are essential. The position requires maintaining PGA of Canada membership in good standing, fulfilling professional development requirements, and representing the club positively within the local golf community. Active participation in staff meetings and a commitment to the overall success of the facility are also expected.

Qualifications
  • PGA of Canada Membership in good standing, with completion of all required professional development programs.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in golf operations management or a similar leadership role within a golf facility.
  • Proven ability to lead and supervise teams, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Strong knowledge of Pro Shop operations, including point-of-sale systems, tee sheet management, cash handling, and retail merchandising.
  • Demonstrated expertise in inventory control, vendor relations, and retail purchasing strategies.
  • Knowledge of golf rules, etiquette, and pace-of-play standards.
  • Experience in planning and executing tournaments and corporate events, with attention to detail and guest service excellence.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with members, guests, and staff.
  • Solid understanding of budgeting, financial reporting, and expense management.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency with golf industry software (tee sheet management, POS systems) and basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Commitment to professionalism, integrity, and representing the club positively within the golf community.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and peak season demands.
Compensation
$55,000 – $62,500 annually, commissions, with additional opportunity for extra income from teaching
