The Head Coach, Golf is responsible for the coaching, management and coordination of the Men's and Women’s golfs programs. The objectives are to provide opportunities for athletically talented golf players and develop them to their fullest potential as student athletes. This position is responsible for operating under NAIA and Canada West operating bylaws, University policies, and philosophy and objectives of the Varsity Program and Athletic Department.

The Head Coach, Golf reports to the Associate Director, Athletics. This role interacts with other departmental, faculty and on campus/off campus stakeholders.
- Responsibilities

- Responsible for the coaching, management and coordination of the men's and women’s golf program.
- Responsible for the effective selection, leadership, mentorship and evaluation of assistant coaches and other team personnel.
- Accountable for the development and delivery of an annual plan and a 5 year plan as required.
- Responsible for the recruitment of highly skilled student-athletes.
- Responsible for orienting student-athletes to the policies and regulations of the University, Department of Athletics & Recreation, Canada West and NAIA.
- Develop and lead team fundraising initiatives. Includes the management of the fundraising plan, budgeting, and tracking of goals.
- Works with the Senior Director of DAE, Athletics and Recreation and other members of the DAE team to support donor and alumni initiatives (e.g., Thunderbird Scholarship Breakfast, newsletters).
- Works closely with DAE staff and collaborates with volunteers to organize, support, and actively participate in fundraising initiatives and events that advance the program's goals.
- Ensures participating student-athletes meet all necessary and required eligibility regulations as set out in the Canada West and NAIA rules and regulations.
- Works with the Associate Director, Athletics in competition scheduling and program development.
- Fiscally responsible for preparing and managing all UBC varsity men’s basketball budgets as directed by the Associate Director, Athletics.
- Performs administrative duties in conjunction with the Varsity administrative units in regards to travel arrangements, student-athlete financial awards, housing and eligibility requirements.
- Encourages student-athletes to maintain and develop good academic standing and monitors and assists student-athletes with academic progress.
- Works with the Associate Director, Athletics and Performance in delivery of related programs for the Varsity team.
- Liaise with the Integrated Support team (S&C, Nutrition, Analytics, Physio) in support of delivery of Sport Science and Sport medicine programming.
- Cooperates with Senior Manager, Communications and Media Relations in conducting interviews and athlete information for media guides and website.
- Cooperates with Coordinator, Sport Marketing and Promotions and other members of the Marketing team in developing materials and supporting initiatives designed to market and promote the golf program.
- Attends department and coaches’ meetings as required.
- Participation in provincial and national programs and community events is encouraged to enhance coaching ability and the overall program.
- Know and abide by NAIA and Canada West rules, regulations and ethical guidelines.
- Project a positive image of the student-athletes, program and the department.
- Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum Coaching Certification
- PGA of Canada Member in good standing
- Minimum of five years coaching experience and a proven track record of success, preferably at the University or national level, or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check – Vulnerable Sector Check.

Preferred Qualifications
- PGA of Canada Class A – Certification
- 10 years coaching experience and a proven track record of success, preferably at the University or national level, or equivalent.
- Master’s degree is an asset
- Excellent leadership skills and ability to recruit.
- Proven track record, and a leadership style characterized by enthusiasm, integrity and discipline.
- Knowledge of academic system at the University.
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently.
- Strong organizational, administrative and computer skills an asset.
- A proven record of integrity, high principles, and demonstrated skill in developing / motivating student-athletes both academically and athletically.
- A pleasant personality together with a positive attitude is essential.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment, get along and work well with members of the department, supervisors and other employees of the university.

- Salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000 per year
