- Job Summary
- A golf course superintendent is responsible for developing a dedicated team to assist in caring for the golf course. Reporting to the general manager, the superintendent will be a proven leader in the industry and will have had a successful track record in the areas of turf grass management, human resources and financial management.
- Responsibilities
-
- Prepare and maintain annual budget for the maintenance and capital improvement of the golf course.
- Plan and coordinate all maintenance and project work on the golf course to ensure a high standard of play.
- Train and oversee scheduling of turf maintenance staff.
- Manage purchases of maintenance equipment and supplies.
- Supervise the maintenance and repairing of golf course equipment.
- Report to the management team of the golf club.
- Respond to internal and external customer inquiries.
- Participate in long-term planning meetings.
- Offer professional opinions in the area of turf maintenance as prompted by management team.
- Perform other duties as required by the management team.
- Qualifications
-
- A degree in turf management or a diploma combined with equivalent experience.
- A minimum of five years of golf course maintenance experience.
- Knowledge and experience of golf course operations.
- Extensive knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in golf course grounds maintenance.
- Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management.
- Ability to work independently.
- Proven leadership and human resource skills.
- Working knowledge of construction principles and methods.
- Knowledge of irrigation operation and water management.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good financial management skills.
- A thorough understanding of the game of golf and best play.
- Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) practices.
- Lead and Document Health and Safety meetings with Turf staff.
- First Aid and Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification an asset
- Pesticide Fungicide Fertilizer Applicator certification
- Valid drivers license
- Applicant will be willing to live / work in a Northern climate with variable weather conditions. Opportunities for advancement within the organization may be available to the capable, motivated and energetic employee.
- Compensation

- The club is offering a base salary of $72,000 to be negotiated depending upon experience, certifications, capabilities, etc.

- Employment Duration
- Applicant will report to the Organization for the summer golf season, approx. 7 months with time allotted for spring preparations for opening and fall preparations for wintering the course. A maximum work period of 10 months is anticipated, depending upon weather conditions. Opportunity exists to extend duties over the winter months. Vacation will be scheduled during employment period.
