Located just outside the city of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Whitewater Golf Club strives to provide a world-class experience in Northwestern Ontario. Stretching along the Kaministiquia River, Whitewater Golf Club is a Championship 18-hole facility designed by Thomas McBroom, laid out over 550 acres.
Whitewater has a full Practice / Academy facility with it’s own parking lot, 3 full tee decks, 350 yards in depth with multiple target greens, a large short-game green and bunker area, as well as an Academy building including an on-site office and meeting room.

Reporting to the Head Golf Professional, the Associate / First Assistant Golf Professional is responsible to provide leadership and execution in the planning and delivery of all duties related to the Golf Operations. To provide a high-quality, safe and valued experience for both the members and staff. The Associate / First Assistant Golf Professional is responsible for fulfilling all Professional duties listed in the Duties and Responsibilities section.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS
- Act as a leader in the Golf Shop Operations.
- Provide a pleasant golf experience for members and guests.
- Provide a safe and rewarding work environment for the Golf Shop Staff.
- Train staff with the intention of providing an exceptional member service.
- Lead in management of all Golf Shop Inventory Items & Controls.
- Assist in the annual purchasing of Golf Shop Inventory including finding unique items to improve the quality of the shopping experience for members and guests.
- Provide a strong junior program, including the First Tee Program at Whitewater.
- Provide a knowledgeable and enjoyable lesson experience for members and guests.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Golf Shop
- Provide an exceptional and welcoming level of member and guest service.
- Lead in the role of hiring and management of all Golf Shop Operations staff with direct assistance from the Head Professional.
- Assist the Head Golf Professional in creating the annual scheduling template to optimize member service.
- Provide timely schedules to the staff on Google Docs, expectation of 2 weeks in advance.
- Manage shift changes, sick calls, no-shows etc.
- Take a leadership roll in training, supervision and coordination of daily activities and duties of the Golf Operations staff.
- Motivate and lead staff in providing an exceptional member experience.
- Manage and provide all Golf Shop staff with the necessary items to complete daily tasks.
- Ensure the Golf Shop and Golf Operations areas are kept in a clean and organize manner.
- Monitor and manage retail inventory, ordering, receiving and merchandising.
Events
- Lead in the setup, organization and scoring of member & outside events, tournaments & league(s) through the Golf Genius platform with assistance from the Head Golf Professional.
- Lead in the organization and execution of 9 & Dines, and other member events.
- Take the full lead roll on at least one outside event monthly, assigned by the Head Professional.
Juniors
- Lead Golf Canada’s First Tee Program at Whitewater
- Operate a strong junior program to include all levels of development.
- Always allow first viewing and preference to Whitewater juniors, kids, & grandkids of members.
- Develop strong and pleasant working relationship with all parents, grandparents, and guardians.
- Publish a full calendar of junior programs by early spring.
- Develop junior events where needed and when scheduling allows. Present full plans, including budget, to management for approval.
- Be knowledgeable and to be an ambassador to bringing on new junior members and family memberships (including pricing, forms, and rules & regulations).
Other Duties
- Responsible for efficient and friendly customer service throughout the Golf Shop, checking in golfers, accurately ringing up charges at the register and properly checking in all golfers to play.
- Help organize and promote all Club Tournaments and other special events/functions at the Club.
- Be informed about promotions and to communicate important information to the membership.
- Take a lead roll in management of the practice facility.
- Ensure daily assignments are completed in their respective areas to meet Club standards.
- Provide an lesson experience.
- Assist in the creation and execution of instructional programs.
- Club Repair – basic club repair and maintenance.
- Perform additional duties they arise and may be assigned.
MEETINGS
- Attend the weekly management meeting, when requested, to present a junior report.
- Attend the monthly member’s committee meeting, when requested, to present a junior report
- Qualifications
-
- Strong customer service skills.
- Experience in golf shop organization and management, as well as tournament and league organization preferred.
- Knowledge of golf rules, back shop services, golf cart maintenance and driving range operations.
- Knowledge of golf apparel and equipment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Must be available to work flexible hours to meet operational needs.
- Knowledge of TEE-ON P.O.S., Golf Genius, and Microsoft Office would be an asset.
