Job Summary
The Assistant Coach, Team Canada – NextGen Girls (“Assistant Coach”) will work with the Head Coach, Team Canada - NextGen Girls (“Head Coach”) to develop annual goals and objectives for all areas of responsibility. They will assist with the successful planning, implementation, and delivery of the Team Canada – NextGen Girls program by leading athlete support for players as assigned by the Head Coach. The Assistant Coach will play a critical role in the updated player development strategy that Golf Canada is executing to achieve the goal of 30 Canadian players with status on the LPGA and PGA TOUR by 2032.
Responsibilities

Support Team Canada – NextGen players  (90%)

  • Successfully support the vision and nurture the culture of the Golf Canada player development program, according to the direction of the Head Coach and Director, High Performance.
  • Provide coaching to players at training camps, at domestic competitions, and at international competitions as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • Work with the Head Coach to identify gaps and growth opportunities for players within the Team Canada – NextGen Girls program.
  • Make individual visits to a player’s home training environments as required by the Head Coach.
  • Collaborate with a player’s existing personal coach(es), parents, and other key stakeholders.
  • Build working relationships with these individuals to ensure alignment on approaches regarding player development.
  • Provide tactical and technical feedback and recommendations as required using various technology platforms for analysis.
  • Provide reporting on athlete progress, including through the established athlete report as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Program Administration  (10%)

  • Prepare work plans, reports and other documents as required.
  • Work cooperatively with Golf Canada high performance administration staff and sport science consultants.
  • Arrange personal travel and assist players with travel logistics as needed.
  • Act as a positive ambassador and spokesperson for Golf Canada and the sport of golf in Canada.
  • Support and uphold Golf Canada sponsorship and partner agreements.
  • Abide by all Golf Canada and Sport Canada policies regarding Safe Sport.
Qualifications
  • Success in high-performance golf with minimum five (5) years playing or coaching experience.
  • Remains current with knowledge, trends and practices that are necessary to support young golfers to develop into strong amateur golfers and eventual LPGA and PGA TOUR prospects.
  • Full technical understanding of and a demonstrated ability to analyse all aspects of golf.
  • Strong understanding of Canada’s Long-Term Player Development model (LTPD).
  • PGA of Canada membership or international equivalent is required. Additionally, should be CDC certified or trained. 
  • Multilingual (English, French, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean) language skills are considered an asset.
Compensation

The role is part-time in nature, with hours varying based on player and head coach needs and includes periodic travel to training camps and competitions. This position offers an annual salary in the range of $50,000 to $60,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. As the contract extends beyond one year, compensation will then be pro-rated on a monthly basis. In addition to monthly compensation, Golf Canada will cover PGA of Canada membership dues and a monthly cell phone allowance, and all approved travel-related expenses will be covered when applicable.
