Schedule of events, pairings and results
The PGA of Canada’s flagship event is back for its 103rd edition this week, with Pinegrove Club de Golf providing the backdrop for 119 of the top professional golfers in the country.
One of the most challenging venues in recent history for the event, players will want to make sure they get all of the little details right this week, just like how Golf Away Tours takes care of all the details when planning golf getaways – let’s take a deep dive into what players are in store for this week.
The ‘Details’ of the Week
- Pinegrove was designed by noted architect Howard Watson and opened in 1957 as a prestigious club on the South Shore.
- Over the decades it has earned a reputation as one of Quebec’s most beautiful and challenging courses, surrounded by the Acadie River with steep ravines, arch bridges, and dramatic landscapes.
- Pinegrove hosted the Canadian Open twice, first in 1964, won by Kel Nagle, and again in 1969, where Tommy Aaron carded a courserecord 64 on his way to victory over Sam Snead.
- It also served as host for the 2006 Canadian Mid‑Amateur Championship
- A ‘featured group’ of sorts will begin their competition on Tuesday at 9 AM ET. The three most recent past champions: Yohann Benson, Kevin Stinson and Wes Heffernan make up the group.
- This is a “home game” for 2024 champion Benson, who lives just 45 minutes away from the golf course.
- Gord Burns had to fly west – far west – for the tournament. Last week, Burns competed in the ISPS Handa Senior Open (The Senior Open Championship). While he missed the cut at Sunningdale Old Course, earlier in July he recorded a T16 finish at the DICK’S Open on the Champions Tour.
- Burns also won the PGA Seniors’ Championship of Canada in June at Manitou Ridge.
- The event begins on Thank a Pro day. On July 28, golfers across Canada have been thanking their local PGA of Canada professionals for the impact they make on the sport throughout the country.
- The winner of the event will earn a spot on the PGA of Canada’s Four Nation’s Cup team. The Canadians will look to defend the title they claimed when the event was hosted in South Africa in 2022. In addition to the winner of the event this week, other competitors on the team include the 2024 Assistants’ and PGA Head Professional Champions, as well as the top player on the PGA Rankings presented by ECCO as of the end of 2024.
- The top 15 players on the PGA Player Rankings presented by ECCO are all in the field.
- The tournament scorecard can be found here.
- Keep your eyes on the PGA of Canada’s Instagram account, where we will keep you apprised of all the action.
- The 13th hole has been chosen as the ‘E-Z-GO ‘It’s Good to Go’ hole of the week. An eagle on No. 13 would gain players a significant advantage on the field as they head to the homestretch. All players who make eagle on the par 5 throughout the week will be put into a draw for a $250 cash prize.
