Tuesday marked the second round of the PGA Head Professional Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf and the PGA Head Teaching Professional Championship of Canada supported by UpSwing Golf.

Playa Paraiso has showed its teeth through two rounds – big numbers are certainly out there on each and every hole, but two players – Gordon Burns and Weston Gillett - have managed to avoid them through two days.

Burns made seven birdies on Tuesday offset by just a single bogey to shoot 66 and takes a one-stroke lead over David Li Sheman into the final round of the Head Teaching Professional Championship of Canada presented by UpSwing Golf.

Burns has had quite the season in 2025, winning the PGA Seniors’ Championship of Canada presented by GOLFTEC in June and making four cuts on the PGA TOUR Champions circuit.

“I played solid, kept it in play off the tee and had lots of looks for birdie, it was a good round I was happy,” said Burns. “The greens are pretty true so if you hit it where you’re looking, they have a good chance of going in.”

In the Head Professional Championship of Canada presented by Callaway Golf, Lacombe Golf & Country Club’s Weston Gillett managed six birdies of his own to shoot 69, taking a one-stroke lead over Marc Hurtubise into the final round.

The InterZone competition wrapped up Tuesday with the squad from the PGA of Ontario comprised of: Sheman, Ed Maunder, Kyle Brodhagen and Ron Kenesky, winning for the second-straight year.

The 18th hole was selected as the E-Z-GO It’s Good to Go Hole of the Week. Thus far, Matt Kirlin has made the lone eagle on the hole, chipping in today, and will take home the $250 bonus unless another player can make a 3 on the hole on Wednesday.

Final round pairings will be available here. And here.
