You can’t finish a round better than David Morland IV did on Monday at Manitou Ridge Golf Club.

From 193 yards out on 18, Morland hit a penetrating 4-iron that never left the pin. The ball landed a yard in front of the hole and found the bottom of the cup for his first-career albatross.

Carding an eagle five holes earlier, Moreland signed for a 64, equaling 44 Stableford points and a four-point lead over Danny King and Gord Burns at the PGA Seniors’ Championship of Canada presented by GOLFTEC.

“I got to 18 and hit a 4-iron into the wind. I was thinking it looked pretty good, but I didn’t see where it ended up,” said Morland. “I got up there and there wasn’t a ball on the green and I looked in the hole and there it was. The first albatross in my 30-some year career.”

An important note, Morland DOES have 19 hole-in-ones to make up for his lack of albatrosses prior to today.

Morland finished second in the event in 2024 to Alan McLean. Funny enough, McLean made an albatross in the event last year and then was in the same group as Morland today to witness his deuce.

On top of the extra Stableford points, the albatross almost guarantees Morland the $250 cash prize as the player with the low score on 18, the ‘E-Z-GO ‘Good to Go’ hole of the week.

“I’ve been playing good golf this year, but I haven’t gotten into any Champions Tour events, so it’s been frustrating from that end,” said Morland. “But it is really nice to come out and play so well and be leading our National Championship.”
