Canada Set to Compete for Women’s PGA Cup at Carden Park

The PGA of Canada will once again take the international stage this September as five of the country’s top PGA Professionals travel to England for the 2026 Women’s PGA Cup, taking place September 3–5 at Carden Park Golf Resort.

The Canadian team will be led by captain Christine Wong, who will be joined by Caroline Ciot, Casey Ward, Gina Nelson and Diana McDonald. The five-player squad brings a combination of Women’s PGA Cup experience and national championship success as the team looks to better their three runner-up finishes in each of the PGA Women’s Cup.

The Women’s PGA Cup features teams from Canada, the United States, Australia, Great Britain & Ireland, South Africa and Sweden. The 54-hole competition will be contested using a team stroke-play format, with each player completing her own round each day and the top three scores from each team counting toward the daily total.

At the 2024 Women’s PGA Cup at Sunriver Resort in Oregon, Canada finished second at 2-under par, with Wong leading the way individually in third at 2-under. Ciot finished ninth and Ward 10^th.

With three returning members of that 2024 squad and two newcomers, Canada will have plenty of experience to draw upon when the competition begins at Carden Park.

The Team

Christine Wong (Savage Creek Golf Club) - Captain

The Vancouver, B.C. professional was part of Canada’s inaugural Women’s PGA Cup team in 2019 and has competed in all three previous editions. She was the team’s low player in 2019 and again led Canada in 2024, finishing third individually after rounds of 70-70-71.

A former member of Golf Canada’s National Women’s Team, Wong enjoyed an outstanding collegiate career at San Diego State University, where she won four individual NCAA titles. She was also a two-time B.C. Women’s Amateur champion and finished as the second-low amateur at the 2010 U.S. Women’s Open at Oakmont Country Club.

Wong is also a two-time Brooke Henderson Female Player of the Year, most recently receiving the honour for her 2025 season. She captured the PGA Women’s Championship of Canada in 2021 and has continued to establish herself as one of the leading professionals in the PGA of Canada.

Caroline Ciot (Le Mirage (Club De Golf))

Ciot returns to the Women’s PGA Cup for her third appearance after representing Canada in both 2022 and 2024. The Brossard, Que. native has established herself as one of the PGA of Canada’s most accomplished competitive professionals, including a stint on the Symetra Tour in 2019.

Ciot has enjoyed considerable success at the PGA Women’s Championship of Canada, finishing fourth in 2021 and was the low PGA of Canada professional in 2022. She also won the professional division of the 2022 Glencoe Invitational.

Her Women’s PGA Cup experience should be another asset for Canada. In 2024, Ciot finished ninth individually and closed with a 69 to help Canada secure its third consecutive runner-up finish.

Casey Ward (Credit Valley Golf & Country Club)

Ward is another veteran on the international stage, returning for her fourth Women’s PGA Cup after competing for Canada in 2019, 2022 and 2024.

The Director of Instruction at Credit Valley Golf & Country Club in Mississauga, Ont., Ward combines a strong competitive resume with an extensive background in golf instruction and biomechanics. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Queen’s University and a Master of Science in Kinesiology from California State University Fullerton.

Her competitive credentials include winning the 2015 Ontario Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship and being a medalist at the 2015 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur. She also competed in the 2019 CPKC Canadian Women’s Open.

Ward enters the 2026 event in strong form, having been named the PGA of Ontario’s Women’s Player of the Year in 2025, winning the PGA of Ontario Women’s Spring Championship that same year.

Gina Nelson (Highlands Golf Club)

Nelson will make her Women’s PGA Cup debut after building an impressive competitive record in Alberta. A Class “A” Professional at Highlands Golf Club, Nelson earned her PGA card in 2020 and has quickly established herself as one of the province’s leading female professionals.

A strong all-around athlete and passionate advocate for growing women’s golf, Nelson brings plenty of competitive experience to the table, winning the PGA of Alberta Women’s Championship four times, including victories in 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2024.

She also teamed up with Matt Moroz to win the Srixon/Cleveland Team Match Play Championship in 2025.  

Diana McDonald (University Golf Club)

McDonald will also make her Women’s PGA Cup debut and brings proven experience competing successfully against some of Canada’s top female professionals.

A former South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year at Wingate University, McDonald has been a consistent contender at the PGA Women’s Championship of Canada, claiming low PGA of Canada Professional honours this past July thanks to a final-round 69.

McDonald currently teaches out of University Golf Club in Vancouver, B.C.Canada has been knocking on the door of a Women’s PGA Cup victory since the event’s inception. The team finished second in the inaugural competition in 2019 and has repeated that result in each of the two subsequent editions.

Now, with a roster featuring three returning members of the 2024 team and two players making their Women’s PGA Cup debuts, Canada will look to turn its remarkable run of podium finishes into a championship.
