Warren Sye to make Professional Senior Debut at 2010 Mr. Lube – Canadian PGA Seniors’

(Acton, ON) June 20,2010 – The Canadian PGA is pleased to announce that Warren Sye of Toronto, ON will make his professional senior debut at the 2010 Mr. Lube – Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship presented by Cleveland Golf/Srixon at RattleSnake Point Golf Club in Milton, ON from July 5-8.

Sye is one of Canada’s most accomplished amateurs having won over 120 golf tournaments in his career including five Ontario Amateurs (’88,’91,’93,’94 & ’96) and two Canadian Amateurs (’90 & ’94). He also played in five Canadian Opens.

“I can’t tell you how excited I am to tee it up in my first Canadian PGA National Championship,” said Sye, a lifelong member at the Weston Golf & Country Club. “I’m looking forward to competing against this impressive field of Canadian PGA Professionals, many of whom are great friends.”

The Ontario Golf Hall of Famer certainly could have enjoyed success as a professional during the 80’s and 90’s but instead decided to work close to home in the sales and marketing world. Now 53 years of age, Sye is determined to put his game to the test at the 2010 Champions Tour Qualifying School this fall.

“Warren Sye is a very accomplished player that has performed at every level he has played at,” stated Gary Bernard, Executive Director of the Canadian PGA. “Our field is shaping up to be one of the best we’ve ever had and Warren will certainly add to it.”

Sye was a member of nine Willingdon Cup teams in Ontario, won 13 Golf Association of Ontario (GAO) events and holds the record for both the lowest one-day score (62), and lowest four-day score (272).

Sye has represented Canada 11 times internationally, including eight for Canada and three for Ontario. He considers his most memorable moment as winning the gold medal at the World Amateur Team Championship in 1986 in Caracas, Venezuela.

Sye attended the University of Houston on a scholarship in the late 1970s and was a teammate of Fred Couples and CBS broadcaster Jim Nanz.

The 2010 Mr. Lube – Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship presented by Cleveland Golf/Srixon will kick off festivities on July 5th with the Mr. Lube Tournament for Life Pro-Am with proceeds benefitting Prostate Cancer Canada.
