Ten LPGA Tour Players Confirmed to Play at the 2008 Canadian PGA Women's Championship Presented by NIKE Golf

ACTON, ON (July 30, 2008) – NIKE Golf and the Canadian PGA are pleased to announce that LPGA Tour professionals Kris Tamulis, Taylor Leon, Cindy Pasechnik, Kim Williams, Lee Ann Walker-Cooper, Hannah Jun, Jennifer Greggain, Lisa Strom, Audra Burks, and Nancy Harvey will be at Credit Valley Golf and Country Club, August 6th - 8th to challenge for the $70,000 purse at the 2008 Canadian PGA Women’s Championship presented by NIKE Golf.

“We are delighted to add this contingent of LPGA Tour players to our Women’s Championship,” stated Steve Carroll, Executive Director for the Canadian PGA. “The skill level of this field is taking the Championship to a higher level. Having some of these LPGA professionals and rising stars compete for their first Canadian PGA National title will no doubt contribute to what we’re expecting to be an incredible event.”

Canadian LPGA Tour professionals Cindy Pasechnik and Jennifer Greggain will be fan favourites as they return to Canada in attempt to win their first professional National title after retaining non-exempt status on Tour this season. Two other LPGA rising stars that will be exciting to watch next week are rookies, Taylor Leon, who has won over $79,000 already this season and Hannah Jun who has won over $32,000 making five cuts in her eight tournaments played. Kris Tamulis will also be another player to follow as she leads this group in earnings this year on Tour with over $98,000 making nine cuts this season with her best finish a tie for 13th at the Corona Championship in April. Always an exciting player to watch, Nancy Harvey, three time champion of the event (‘94, ‘95 and ‘00), will once again return to battle for her fourth National Canadian PGA title.

The Canadian PGA Women’s Championship presented by NIKE Golf will make its debut August 6th – 8th, 2008 at Credit Valley G&CC in Mississauga, Ontario. The 21st edition of the event, which will also be open to foreign players for the first time, offers a purse of $70,000 for club and touring women professionals.

Along with opening the field to foreign players, the event is receiving a makeover of sorts as amateurs and professionals can be fitted and demo NIKE Golf’s innovative products before the Simmlands Insurance Pro-Am on August 6th, which will be followed by a NIKE Golf fashion show. Pro-am participants will also be eligible to win a NIKE Golf makeover.

Past champions of this event include LPGA Tour players Lorie Kane (five victories) and Alena Sharp, who won the championship in 2004.

The deadline for players to confirm their intention to compete at the 2008 Canadian PGA Women’s Championship presented by NIKE Golf is Thursday, July 31st, 2008.

Player confirmations and announcements will continue in the weeks leading up to the event.

The event is free for spectators to attend.
