(KING CITY, ON) July 8, 2011 – Ken Tarling of Sanford, ON posted a 2 under-par, 69, finishing the three-day tournament with an 8-under-par, 136 to win his first Mr. Lube - Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship, presented by Cleveland Golf/Srixon, beating out playing partner Scott Allred of Calgary, AB who ended the day with a three-day total of 207.

Tarling and Allred both began the round with pars on the first three holes. Tarling went on to birdie the fourth hole, while Allred bogeyed, giving Tarling a one-shot lead after nine. On the back nine, Tarling went birdie-par-birdie giving him a 5-shot lead. Tarling got into trouble on 17 and ended up with a triple-bogey, but he kept his nerves in check and managed to par the hole giving him a two-stroke lead to win the championship.

Tarling adds his name to The Albert H. Murray Trophy along with past Canadian golf legends and past champions including Stan Leonard, Moe Norman, Bob Panasik and Al Balding.

“It means a lot to me to win this tournament” said Tarling, a disciple of the late Moe Norman who he met at Twenty Valley when he was 14 years old. “For me to join Moe, because of what he meant to me, and Al Balding who took the time to teach me stuff, is fantastic. These guys are legends and I’m so happy to be a part of it,” added Tarling.

This championship gives Tarling his 100th professional win just three days away from the Canadian PGA’s centennial celebration.

The come back of the day came when Hocan Olsson of St. Bruno, QC and winner of the 2005 Canadian PGA Seniors’ Champion fired a 5-under-par 66 in the final round, with eight birdies, making up for a disappointing second round. Holcan finished in 16th position with a 223.

“It was just easier today”, said Holcan, whose son Daniel, from Malmo, Sweden, came to caddy for him in the event. “It’s nice having him here. He caddied for me a lot in the past and he knows my swing. After yesterday’s round, we had a little chit-chat and he told me a couple things that he had noticed after not seeing me golf for a while. He was used to seeing me play my strong point, which is right to left, so today I did just that and it worked out pretty good”, added Holcan.

Four-time Club Pro Champion and one time Senior Champion Yvan Beauchemin (Louiseville, QC) finished with a 5-under par 208, while 2010 Club Pro Champion Brian Hutton ended with a 4-under 209.

Norman won this championship a record seven straight years from 1979 to 1985 while Balding stunned the golf world by winning the championship at age 76 in 2000.
