RBC Announced as Presenting Sponsor of the Canadian PGA Player Rankings

- Top Ranked Player to Receive spot in 2012 RBC Canadian Open -

(ACTON, ON) June 13, 2011: The Canadian PGA added another piece of the puzzle in their rejuvenated tournament program for the Association today, announcing that RBC has come on board as the presenting sponsor of the Canadian PGA Player Rankings.

“This is another fantastic partnership for us that makes great business sense for both the Canadian PGA and RBC,” stated Glenn Cundari, President of the Canadian PGA. “RBC is a great friend of golf around the world and we are thrilled to bring our 3,700 Canadian PGA Professionals and our brand into the fold.”

The Canadian PGA Player Rankings was released in March of this year to much fanfare after the Association accumulated three years of results from Canadian PGA National Championships and the nine Canadian PGA Zone Championships. The announcement of the list created a lot of buzz around the country as it’s a first for any PGA in the PGA World Alliance. RBC will work with the Canadian PGA to create some unique benefits for those players near and at the top of the list each year.

In addition, Golf Canada has confirmed that the number one ranked player according to the Canadian PGA Player Rankings by a certain date will receive a spot in the 2012 RBC Canadian Open.

“RBC is proud to add the Canadian PGA to our esteemed list of partners,” said Jim Little, Chief Brand and Communications Officer, RBC. “As the Official Bank of the Canadian PGA, we support their vision of formalized player rankings that will ultimately ensure the country’s best club professional receives an exemption into the RBC Canadian Open each year, and we look forward to this week’s activities in Calgary during the PGA Championship of Canada.”

“Extending an exemption into the RBC Canadian Open based on the new Canadian PGA Player Rankings represents an exciting qualifying channel for Canadian PGA professionals looking to compete in Canada’s National Open Championship,” said Scott Simmons, Golf Canada’s Executive Director and CEO.

“By having our RBC Canadian Open exemption from Golf Canada move towards our number one ranked player as of a determined date we are now providing every member of the Canadian PGA an opportunity to play for the coveted spot,” added Gary Bernard, Executive Director of the Canadian PGA.

In addition, RBC becomes the Official Bank of the PGA Championship of Canada and plans to roll-out a number of client hospitality events across the country, featuring Canadian PGA Professionals as guest instructors.
