(ACTON, ON) AUGUST 4, 2011: The PGA of Canada announced details of the PGA Women’s Championship of Canada presented by NIKE Golf today. 2011 marks the 25th anniversary of the Championship, an event that was first played in 1987 at The Ladies Golf Club of Toronto. This year’s event will be hosted at Bayview Golf and Country Club, in Thornhill, ON August 30th to September 1st.

The field will include several top golfers from both Canada and the United States including defending champion Laura Bavaird of Grosse Ile., MI.

To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the championship the PGA of Canada has added a Legends Division to the event. PGA members Mary-Jane Hall, Shelley Woolner and Cathy Sherk a two-time winner of the event and the first champion in 1987 have all confirmed their entry into the field.

As the August 12th deadline for registration approaches, many more women including several from the LPGA and Futures Tour are expected to compete for the $70,000 purse.

Tournament week will kick-off with practice rounds and the Simmlands Insurance Pro-Am in support of Women of Insurance Cancer Crusade (WICC) on Tuesday, August 30th, championship play will be conducted Wednesday, August 31st and Thursday, September 1st with 18 holes of stroke-play each day.

This will be the third time the PGA Women’s Championship of Canada will be contested at Bayview’s impeccably groomed, 18-hole championship golf course. The course designed in 1960 by Canadian Golf Hall of Fame architect Robbie Robinson was renovated by course designer Doug Carrick and is consistently ranked among the top courses in Canada.
