Nike Golf Canada becomes presenting sponsor of Canadian PGA Women’s Championship

TORONTO (July 10, 2008)—The Canadian PGA announced today that Nike Golf Canada has become presenting sponsor of its premier Canadian golf championship for women professionals.

The Canadian PGA Women’s Championship presented by Nike Golf will make its debut August 6-8, 2008 at Credit Valley G&CC in Mississauga, Ont.

The 22nd edition of the event, which will also be open to foreign players for the first time, offers a purse of Cdn $70,000 for club and touring women professionals.

“We are pleased to welcome Nike Golf Canada as presenting sponsor of our premier women’s championship. This partnership demonstrates Nike Golf’s dedication to women’s golf in this country,” said Steve Carroll, Executive Director of the Canadian PGA.

“With Nike Golf’s generous participation, our women’s championship becomes the second largest golf event for women in Canada, and it will continue to grow as we open the event to foreign players for the first time,” Carroll said.

“As part of our commitment to women’s professional and amateur golf in Canada, Nike Golf Canada takes great pride in becoming presenting sponsor of this prestigious professional national championship,” said Vitalis Gomes, Marketing Director for Nike Golf Canada.

Along with opening the field to foreign players, the event is receiving a makeover of sorts: amateurs and professionals can be fitted and demo Nike Golf’s innovative products before the Simmlands Insurance Pro-Am on August 6, which will be followed by a Nike Golf fashion show. Pro-am participants will also be eligible to win a Nike Golf makeover.

Defending champion Salimah Mussani of Burlington, Ont., now assistant women’s golf coach at Stanford University, has indicated she will defend her title.

Player confirmations and announcements will continue in the weeks leading up to the event.

Past champions include LPGA Tour players Lorie Kane (five victories) and Alena Sharp, who won the championship in 2004.

The event is free for spectators to attend. For directions, please visit the Credit Valley website: http://www.creditvalleygolf.com/
