LOCAL SCHOOL GETS UP CLOSE WITH CANADIAN PGA PROFESSIONALS

CALGARY, AB: The Canadian PGA, in cooperation with Golf Canada and Golf Alberta, hosted a junior clinic as a kick-off to the PGA Championship of Canada sponsored by Mr. Lube and presented by TaylorMade-adidas on Tuesday, June 14th at Cottonwood Golf and Country Club in DeWinton, Alberta just outside Calgary.

Teachers from St. Catherine Elementary School who integrated National Golf in Schools (NGIS) into their physical education program, brought grade five and six students to the practice facility at Cottonwood to participate in the junior program that showcased the skills of Canadian PGA members Matt Palsenbarg, Kyle German and David Zibrik.

“This was a fun opportunity for the kids to see some of our best Canadian PGA professionals showcase their skills”, said Canadian PGA President Glenn Cundari. “The pros put on a great show and really entertained the kids.”

The NGIS program has been developed to deliver Physical Education learning outcomes through the sport of golf. The initial element of the program is focused on assisting elementary school teachers with and without a background in golf, to plan and deliver quality learning experiences using golf as the vehicle. Developed by Physical and Health Education Canada (PHE Canada) in partnership with the Canadian PGA and Golf Canada, the learning resource was designed to meet the learning outcomes of elementary school curriculum across Canada.
