As a tribute to some of the Canadian PGA’s legendary champions, the corresponding match play brackets have been named after 8-time champion Stan Leonard, 5-time champion George Knudson, 3-time champion Al Balding and 2-time champion Moe Norman.

Leading the charge is the #1-ranked player in the Canadian PGA – Bryn Parry of North Vancouver, BC. It looks like Parry will roll right into the PGA Championship after a hot spring where he racked up three wins on the Srixon Tour in the lower mainland and another victory of the Vancouver Golf Tour. Parry will play Jeff Chambers of Swift Current, SK and the 64th seed in the opening round on Wednesday, June 15th.

Other players to watch include 4th seed Ken Tarling of Sanford, ON, local favourite and 14th seed Darryl James of Calgary, 26th seed Vincent Dumouchel of Candiac, QC, 30th seed Brian McCann of Mississauga, ON, and 45th seed Bill Walsh of Markham, ON.

Tarling spent the winter down under on the Australian Senior PGA Tour racking up multiple wins and cruising to the Order of Merit title while James took home the opening event on the Alberta PGA’s Players Tour and finished 3rd in the Alberta Open just two weeks ago.

Dumouchel and Walsh hoisted trophies winning early season events in their respective Canadian PGA Zones while former Nationwide Tour player and defending Canadian PGA Assistants’ Champion McCann recently won a Great Lakes Tour event in Southern Ontario.

In all, the entire top 10 off the Canadian PGA Player Rankings and 12 Canadian PGA National Champions will be playing in the PGA Championship of Canada. Players with multiple national titles include: Bryn Parry, Danny King of Milton, ON, Ken Tarling, Phil Jonas of Surrey, BC and Yvan Beauchemin of Louiseville, QC. Beauchemin will look to join Canadian Golf Hall of Famer Bob Panasik of Windsor, ON as the only player in Canadian PGA history to win the Club Professional, Senior’s and PGA Championship in their career.

The week will kick off on Tuesday, June 14th with the Mr. Lube – Tournament for Life Pro-Am, an annual charity event in support of prostate cancer research. Clients and guests of Mr. Lube Canada will play alongside some of the Canadian PGA’s finest playing members with a common goal of raising money for a great cause.

The PGA Championship of Canada was first contested in 1912 making it one of the oldest professional golf championships in the world. A storied list of past champions included: Moe Norman, Al Balding, George Knudson, Dan Halldorson, Dave Barr, Bob Panasik., Stan Leonard, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Lanny Wadkins, Ray Floyd and Steve Stricker.
