Dave Barr to Play in BreconRidge Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship

Dave Barr to Play in BreconRidge Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship

OTTAWA, ON (JUNE 22, 2007) - The Canadian PGA and BreconRidge are once again pleased to announce that Canadian golf marvel Dave Barr will play in this year’s Seniors’ Championship tournament at The Marshes Golf Club at Brookstreet Resort in Kanata, Ontario.

Barr has an impressive record in Canadian golf history. Since becoming a Canadian PGA member in 1974, Barr has won numerous tournaments and was inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame in 2000. He is a two time PGA Tour champion, became the first Canadian to win on the Champions/Seniors Tour with his win at the 2003 Royal Caribbean Golf Classic, has twelve Canadian Tour victories, is a four time Order of Merit winner, named ‘SCORE Golf’ Player of the Year eight times, and the list goes on.

"The Canadian PGA is thrilled to once again welcome Dave Barr to the Seniors' Championship. Dave is one of the greatest players in Canadian professional golf history and the spectators at The Marshes will certainly enjoy watching him play” said Steve Carroll, Executive Director of the Canadian PGA.

Without exempt status on the Champions Tour this year, Barr’s schedule has been very sporadic, so he is looking forward to the challenge of playing in this event. “I didn't really know if I was going to play in the BreconRidge Canadian PGA Seniors’ because my game is at a point where I'm not pleased. I think a lot of it is due to the lack of playing this year without my exempt status and losing the tournament edge that I’ve grown accustomed to,” says Barr who’s superstitions include using white tees only and carrying a quarter and two pennies in his pocket. “But when I look back to last year's tournament where I finished third, I really appreciated how well the staff of CPGA Head Professional Tony Dunn treated us, as well as the immense hospitality from Brookstreet Resort, I’m thrilled to come back for another go at the trophy and just maybe win this time if all aspects of the game are firing on all cylinders,” says Barr, 55, who lives in Westbank, B.C.

With the championship gearing up to be a competitive field, Barr is looking forward to the challenge. “The field will be strong with past champions coming back and with a lot of the CPGA Club Professionals that used to play in the Canadian Tour in the early 70's that still have the desire to win like myself. It won’t be a cake walk to win out there, but I do hope to get my name on that prestigious trophy if I can play well”.

True to his roots, Barr has shown his dedication to the game and his country by recognizing the importance of supporting national championships. “I enjoyed my stay last year in the Kanata area of Ottawa and feel I should support the tournament for all things they have done in being involved with the CPGA Seniors’ events in the past. I've gotten a lot out of my career over the past years and think that I should help support our National Champsionship by playing. It’s great to see companies like BreconRidge and Brookstreet Resort get involved and support golf in Canada, so that the CPGA can showcase the talent of its’ membership and get more people out to see how good this game of golf is, as recreation and as a business”.

The $55,000 BreconRidge Canadian PGA Seniors’ Championship will take place from July 19- July 22, 2007 and is a three-day, 54-hole individual stroke-play competition open to Canadian PGA Professionals 50 and older. The Super Senior (60 and older) and Diamond (70 and older) division will be contested over two days of 36 holes.
