ACTON, ON (July 16, 2008) – NIKE Golf and the Canadian PGA announced today that LPGA player Cindy Pasechnik will be at Credit Valley Golf and Country Club this August 6th to 8th, 2008 to compete for the $70,000 purse at the Canadian PGA Women’s Championship presented by NIKE Golf.

“We are delighted to welcome Cindy to compete in our Women’s Championship for the first time,” said Brad Moyer, Tournament Director for the Canadian PGA. “Her statistics on Tour are impressive and we are eager to watch her compete with some of the best female golfers, as the championship is now open to all international players creating a very competitive field.”

Pasechnik, who has played in seven LPGA events this year, is looking to claim her first career National Championship title as a professional. Pasechnik retained her non-exempt status for the second year in a row after she tied 34th at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament in 2007. In 2006 Pasechnik won seven events on The Cactus Tour, competed on the Duramed Futures Tour and the CN Canadian Women’s Tour, where she finished fourth at the CN Canadian Tour Championship. In 2005 Pasechnik competed on the Futures Tour and the Canadian Women’s Tour after turning professional in 2004.

“I am very excited to be playing in this prestigious Canadian event,” stated Pasechnik, “I always look forward to returning to my home country while on tour, especially this year as I will be playing for two weeks in a row in Canada, using this Championship as a warm-up for the CN Canadian Women's Open.”

“The Toronto area is always great place to play because it has many beautiful courses and immense support for the game throughout the community. I have heard great things about Credit Valley Golf and Country Club and I am looking forward to playing there in a few weeks,” stated Pasechnik.

The Canadian PGA Women’s Championship presented by NIKE Golf will make its debut August 6th to 8th, 2008 at Credit Valley G&CC in Mississauga, Ontario. The 22nd edition of the event, which will also be open to foreign players for the first time, offers a purse of $70,000 for club and touring women professionals.
Along with opening the field to foreign players, the event is receiving a makeover of sorts as amateurs and professionals can be fitted and demo NIKE Golf’s innovative products before the Simmlands Insurance Pro-Am on August 6, which will be followed by a NIKE Golf fashion show. Pro-am participants will also be eligible to win a NIKE Golf makeover.

Past champions of this event include LPGA Tour players Lorie Kane (five victories) and Alena Sharp, who won the championship in 2004.

The deadline for players to confirm their intention to compete at the 2008 Canadian PGA Women’s Championship presented by NIKE Golf is Thursday, July 31st, 2008.

Player confirmations and announcements will continue in the weeks leading up to the event.

The event is free for spectators to attend.
