Carla Munch-Miranda Named 2007 OUA Women's Golf Coach of the Year

PICKERING, ON (October 19, 2007) - Canadian PGA Member Carla Munch-Miranda has been named the 2007 OUA Women's Golf Coach of the Year by Ontario University Athletics. Munch-Miranda is currently in her third year as the head coach of the University of Waterloo Warriors women's golf team.

"I am truly honoured to have won this award," said Munch-Miranda. "Coaching at the university level is a great experience, especially helping the students to find the balance between athletics and academics," added Munch-Miranda who is the first Canadian PGA Member to win this award.

The OUA Women's golf division is comprised of nine teams. The Warriors did extremely well over the course of the season finishing with 2 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze at the provincial championships. While the team enjoyed success on the course so did three of its players who were named all-stars, Tiffany Terrier (First Team All-Star), Kristen Hrycko (Second Team All-Star) and Katelyn Inlow (Second Team All-Star). All three players are slated to return to the Warriors line up next season.

"We have a fairly young team with three of our players in 2nd year," said Munch-Miranda. "Everyone involved is excited about the opportunity the team has moving forward."

Munch-Miranda adds the Coach of the Year award to her mantle which includes the 2006 Ontario PGA Assistant of the Year award. Munch-Miranda is a co-owner of the Cambridge Golf Club with her husband Chris and Superintendent Blaine Miller. Cambridge Golf Club also happens to be the home course of the women's golf team which Munch-Miranda attributes to the success of the team.
