Canadian PGA Announces 2007 Scholarship Winners

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Professional Golfers' Association, we would like to congratulate the following winners of the 2007 Canadian PGA Scholarship. This $2000 scholarship is intended to encourage and promote the attainment of higher educational goals for the children and grandchildren of Canadian PGA Members. The recipients were awarded the scholarship based on their academic achievement and contributions to their community.

3) Shauna Panton daughter of Randall Panton of Creston, BC
4) Amanda Heron Grand daughter of Ben McCallum of Mississauga, ON
5) Adam Manning son of James Manning of Cambridge, ON
6) Aaron Switzer step son of Graham Coulter of Deer Valley, SK
7) Adam Wilson son of Alex Wilson of Port Colborne, ON

Kelly Knapp is in his first year at the University of Regina studying Kinesiology where his goal upon graduation is to become a physiotherapist. In addition to the Canadian PGA scholarship, Kelly received a Centennial Merit Plus scholarship for achieving a 95% or above average.

Brother of Kelly, Trent Knapp is attending the University of Regina in the faculty of Business Administration and has also received a Centennial Merit Plus scholarship for attaining over a 95% average, as well as a BA Entrance Scholarship in addition to his Canadian PGA scholarship. He hopes to one day become a golf professional.

Shauna Panton is in her first year at the University of British Columbia studying Human Kinetics. Shauna received the high school Female of the Year award, 2007 Valedictorian award as well as the Carol Meredith Memorial Award for Sportsmanship and Leadership in Athletics. In addition to her Canadian PGA Scholarship, she received the President’s Entrance Scholarship at UBC as well as the Wigen Memorial Bursary and B & J Chester Bursary.

Amanda Heron is attending the University of Toronto to study Physical and Health Education. An avid soccer player and dancer, Amanda hopes to one day become a Physical Education teacher and pursue her love of sport.

Adam Manning is starting his second year at Wilfrid Laurier University in the Honours Business Administration program. This is the second year that Adam has won the Canadian PGA Scholarship. Adam is significantly involved in the community; when he isn’t competing in hockey himself, he is busy coaching the game to younger children.

Aaron Switzer is in his first year at the University of Regina studying Pre-Pharmacy, which upon completion will require him to transfer to the University of Saskatchewan. An avid volunteer in his church, skateboarder, and finalist at the Edmonton Hot Shot film festival, Aaron is a worthy recipient of the Canadian PGA scholarship.

Adam Wilson is attending the University of Waterloo to study recreation and leisure studies in hopes of working as part of a health care team to promote wellbeing and advice for treatment of sports related injuries. Adam is an avid golfer who has competed in three Canadian Junior Championships as well participating in the four-man team Williamson Cup last year. In addition to the Canadian PGA scholarship, Adam has received the Meridian Credit Union scholarship.
