Teaching & Coaching

Are Different Specializations

The PGA of Canada is the only PGA in the world to have clearly distinguished the difference between the competencies of an instructor and a coach.

Those with a specialization in Teaching and/or Coaching have shown an investment into the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) by gaining Certification in a minimum of one context in the appropriate NCCP stream (Instruction/Competition). We have also ensured that those with specializations in Teaching and/or Coaching have been trained on Safe Sport and safeguarding of children in sport.

Although different, there are some commonalities as in access to “the sport system” in Canada through CAC etc.. There is confidence in marketing and making statements about the quality of teachers and coaches at the club. Using the PGA as the gold standard internationally. In the competitive stream, the club can receive recognition as players get better and compete in more significant events.

Clubs can develop lifelong Player Development program, as the PGA teacher or coach will have access to indirect support from Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) applicable Provincial Association, and Golf Canada. For development level athletes, coaches will have demonstrated competency and they're playing ability, they are often seen as a role model for these athletes.

The coach, and therefore the club, have access to world-leading professional development opportunities within the PGA of Canada and its PGA partner associations around the world.

Clubs can say with confidence that the PGA teacher or coach has completed a comprehensive number of safe sport initiatives to protect the club and related students and athletes.
