PGA of Ontario Playing Ability Test
Heron Point Golf Links – Tuesday, October 6, 2020 (18 holes)
This PGA of Ontario Playing Ability Test has a maximum of thirty-six (36) available spots and will be taken on a first come first served basis
Register and Pay $150.00 plus HST by September 29, 2020
Male Applicants – Blue/White Tees
Male < 49 years old – course rating plus 9
Male > 50 years old – course rating plus 11
Male <49 – Rating 71.7, 6277 Yards - Target Score = 81
Male >50 – Rating 71.7, 6277 Yards - Target Score = 83
Female Applicants – Green Tees
Female < 49 years old – course rating plus 13
Female > 50 years old – course rating plus 15
Female <49 – Rating 73.1, 5600 Yards - Target Score = 86
Female >50 – Rating 73.1, 5600 Yards - Target Score = 88
12:30 p.m. tee times in 12-minute intervals.
Applicants who are successful will be sent by email the Apprentice Professional application package. Completed packages must be submitted no later than 30 days after completing the PAT.
The PGA of Ontario reserves the right without notice to change/adjust the number of spots available based on time of year, weather, interest, and government health / club guidelines. PRACTICE ROUNDS:
There is no guarantee that practice rounds will be available. Please contact Mark Napier, Tel: 905-304-0313 ext. 2246 or mnapier@clublink.ca, maximum of 5 days advanced booking
Practice Round fee: $60 plus HST (includes cart) – one practice round per player.
SOCIAL DISTANCING MEASURES will be in place all day and MUST be practiced.
- Face coverings must be worn in the clubhouse at all times
- No handshaking or elbow bumping is permitted.
- Maintain at least six feet of separation from everyone at all times
- Please bring your own hand sanitizer and use as often as you can, especially before and after using any washrooms.
- Maintain a safe distance while handing goods and making transactions.
- Protective barriers shall be used to protect cashiers and customers in payment transaction areas.
- Observe floor markings and barriers to maintain proper traffic flow and physical distancing between customers where line-ups can form.
- Limits to the number of people allowed in the same area will be imposed.
- Staff will be assigned to monitor safe physical distancing in congested areas like entrances/exits and check-outs.
PROTECTING YOURSELF AND OTHERS
- Stay home if:
- You are feeling unwell,
- You have traveled outside Canada within the past 14 days,
- You have a new or worsening cough or fever,
- You have been advised by a medical professional to self-isolate.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
- Practice respiratory etiquette, including coughing and sneezing into your arm. Dispose of tissues immediately into trash receptacles.
- Face coverings must be worn in the clubhouse at all times
ARRIVAL TIME PRIOR TO EVENT:
Players will be allowed to arrive no earlier than thirty (30) minutes prior to their tee time in order to adequately warm up.
ARRIVALS AND CHECK-IN:
- A greeter will be at the property entrance to stop vehicles and inform golfers of protocols prior to teeing off.
- Golfers can access to the property 30 minutes prior to their tee time.
- Golfers that arrive more than 30 minutes before their tee time will not be permitted in the parking lot.
CHECK-IN WITH PLAYING ABILITY TEST CONVENOR
Applicants are asked to check-in at the tee, while maintaining physical distance. Players will be sent in advance by electronic means a scorecard, pin sheet and rules sheet for the Playing Ability Test and MUST be printed off for use at the PAT.
SCORING: No exchange of scorecards between players before or after their round; final score verification will take place verbally by the 18th green.
- A final scoring area will be established using social distancing measures whereby you can check your scores and your playing partner can attest them.
- You will be asked to re-read your scores to your playing partners and to our team for verification.
- Please sign your own scorecard on the LEFT SIDE to attest for your playing partner’s score
- Please sign your own scorecard on the RIGHT SIDE to verify your own score that has been read by your scorer.
- Drop your scorecard into the box provided when all scores are verified.
- Scoring will be final once you have submitted your scorecard.
- Final results will be available online
WASHROOMS:
- Designated washrooms will be available with only one individual allowed access at a time. Non-essential supplies will be removed.
- Alcohol-based hand sanitizer will be available outside of washrooms and in public areas.
- Kleenex will be available in washrooms and public areas.
- In addition to routine cleaning and disinfecting of washrooms (including on-course washrooms), an enhanced hard surface disinfection will be applied twice a day.
PROSHOP:
A limited number of golfers will be permitted inside the Golf Shop at the direction of staff.
CLUBHOUSE AND FACILITIES
- Face coverings must be worn in the clubhouse at all times
- Limited clubhouse access.
- Clubhouse access and entrance points shall be limited to one entry and exit point. All clubs shall map outflow and plan for customer/employee access to each facility to minimize touchpoints.
- Wherever possible, doors will be propped open to minimize touchpoints.
- No non-essential in-person meetings are permitted.
- Local management shall determine the appropriate location of the emergency first aid equipment to ensure accessibility with current property modifications.
BUNKERS:
Bunker rakes and ball washers have been removed from the course.
ABNORMAL COURSE CONDITIONS will be in place. Disturbed areas in bunkers are ground under repair. If a player’s ball lies in or touches a disturbed area or if a disturbed area interferes with the player’s area of intended swing (does not include the player’s stance), the player may take relief under Rule 16.1c.
FLAGSTICKS:
- The flag will remain in at all times – DO NOT REMOVE THE FLAG!
- A mechanism to safely retrieve golf balls from holes without touching flagsticks has been installed. All golfers are asked to refrain from touching the flagsticks.
CADDIES
- Caddies are not permitted at this time.
SPECTATORS
- Spectators are not permitted at this time.
CARTS AND ON-COURSE EQUIPMENT
Competitors may walk or make arrangements with the host club for use of a motorize golf cart. Players must adhere to the host facility cart rules. Carts will be available - $22.00 plus HST.
- All golf carts will be staged in designated areas.
- Golfers shall load/unload their own golf bags on to carts.
- All golf carts shall be limited to one rider only
- Push carts will be staged in designated areas and will be provided at no charge.
- No sand/seed bottles shall be provided in carts or elsewhere on the property.
- No tees, scorecards or pencils will be put on carts.
- Designated cart staging areas shall be created for the safe return of carts using physical barriers or signage.
- A garbage bag will be placed in each cart. Customers will be asked to clean the cart after use by putting all items in the bag and disposing in the bins provided at the cart return area.
- Employees will clean and disinfect all golf and push carts before and after use.
- Water coolers or water stations will not be available on course
- No-touch garbage cans will be available on course
EVACUATION PLAN
Should a weather event take place that requires golfers to evacuate the golf course, please return to your personal vehicles immediately following a suspension of play in an effort to prohibit large gatherings.
FOOD & BEVERAGE
- We will have patio locations open for hospitality services after a round of golf with a limited menu for lunch and dinner only and on a first come first-served basis.
- In all cases, golfers will need to wait to be seated and observe directional signage.
- Tables will be spaced 2 metres apart and those not residing in the same household will be required to sit 2 metres apart while at the table.
- Servers will be equipped with PPE, will back away from tables quickly after delivering food and drinks, and must limit their time spent within 2 metres of guests at all times.
- Tables will not be pre-set with cutlery, glassware, condiments, etc.
- A limited menu will be available and can be viewed by visiting the club website. Click on “about the club” then “dining”.
- Disposable menus will also be available.
- Tables and chairs will be cleaned and disinfected between use.
CONFECTIONERY ITEMS
- Limited pre-packaged confectionery items and drinks will be available in one designated location.
- Products for sale:
- Water/Chips/Cookies/Granola Bars/Chocolate/Packaged sandwiches and wraps.
- Employees will not handle re-usable bags or containers, including water bottles, from customers.
- Limited merchandise shall be available for purchase including (gloves, balls, sunscreen, bug spray, and hats only).
- Items shall be provided to the customer in a bag.
- NO ALCOHOL OR SUBSTANCES PERMITTED BEFORE OR DURING YOUR ROUND
RULES OF GOLF; CLOSE OF COMPETITION; CONFORMING GOLF BALLS; CONFORMING DRIVERS
- Golf Canada's Rules of Golf will govern all play. The PGA of Ontario Tournament Rules Committee shall have the final decision on all claims and disputes.
- Only brands of golf balls on the most current List of Conforming Golf Balls may be used.
- Any driver selected for play must have a clubhead that is listed on the most current List of Conforming Driver Heads.
TRAVEL
The PGA of Ontario assumes no responsibility for entrants' travel arrangements. The PGA of Ontario advises entrants not to book travel or room arrangements prior to confirmation of tournament acceptance unless those arrangements can be canceled without penalty.
GROOVE SPECIFICATIONS
The Local Rule for groove and punch mark specifications, effective January 1, 2010, has been adopted as a condition of competition for all PGA of Ontario events. DRESS CODE
Competitors must adhere to the PGA of Ontario Dress Code which is also available in the competitor registration package.
TIME OF STARTING
- Starters will provide detailed instructions to each group on how to proceed throughout the course.
- In order to safely maintain each group’s position throughout the property, playing through will not be permitted.
All players in a group must be present and READY TO PLAY at the time laid down by the Committee. READY TO PLAY is defined as being on or near the player's first tee accompanied with the necessary equipment needed to put a ball in play. Should players not be ready to play, they will not be permitted to participate.
THE USE OF CONTRABAND SUBSTANCES AND THE CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL DURING COMPETITION
The use of contraband substances and the consumption of alcohol during the course of play of a PGA of Ontario Playing Ability Test and/or Tournament event is strictly prohibited. Any player found in breach of this rule will be deemed to have conducted themselves in a manner unbecoming of a Member of our Association and will face a penalty set forth by the Tournament Committee.
MEASURING DEVICES
A player may obtain distance information by using a device that: MEASURES DISTANCE ONLY
However, if a distance measuring device has additional functionality that can gauge or measure other conditions that might affect a player’s play (e.g. elevation change, wind speed, etc.), the use of any such additional function would be a breach of Rule 4.3a.
ELECTRONIC AUDIO OR VIDEO DEVICES
During a round, a player must not listen to or watch content of any nature on a personal audio or video device. Rule 4.3

PASSING THE PLAYING ABILITY TEST - SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS
Upon successful completion of your Playing Ability Test, you will receive a communication from the PGA of Canada regarding the next steps.
