General Manager

The Connaught Golf Club, located in Medicine Hat, Alberta, is a semi-private full-service facility offering an 18-hole championship golf course with beautiful tree lined fairways and immaculate greens, a full practice facility, pro shop, lounge and restaurant. The Golf Club is a not-for-profit society under the Societies Act of Alberta and all profits are used to improve the golf course and to upgrade equipment and facilities. Described as southern Alberta’s “Friendliest Place to Pay”, the Golf Club Board of Directors is inviting applications to fill the position of General Manager.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager will have overall responsibility for ensuring everything we do is geared toward our members and guests enjoying an excellent golf and social experience. The General Manager will have responsibility for growing the Golf Club’s membership base and other revenue streams. By providing oversight to the Golf Club Leadership Team, which includes the Head Golf Professional, the Golf Course Superintendent, the Office Manager and the Club House Manager and their respective staff teams, the General Manager will ensure the operation of the Golf Club is carried out in full compliance with all relevant legislation, Golf Club bylaws and established policies and procedures.
Responsibilities

In addition, other key duties and responsibilities of the General Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Promoting and maintaining a well-respected and professional image within the Golf Club, golf industry and surrounding community.
  • Recruiting, hiring, and training staff committed to the success of the Golf Club.
  • Preparing, implementing, and managing the annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Ensuring the Golf Club’s social media presence supports its operational objectives.
Qualifications

Applicants to the General Manager position should possess the following qualifications, knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Demonstrated leadership and/or managerial experience in a similar role in a golf club operation or other recreational facility, including experience operating a restaurant/lounge.
  • Excellent interpersonal/customer service skills to build and maintain collaborative, effective relationships with members, green fee players and other key stakeholders.
  • Ability to act independently with limited supervision and to analyze and solve problems, handle multiple priorities in a rapidly changing service and business environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, point-of-sale software, social media platforms, and relevant marketing tools.
  • Membership in the Canadian Society of Club Managers is considered an asset but is not an absolute requirement.
