Maintenance of Certification


If you are Certified in any of the PGA of Canada’s NCCP contexts you will be required to obtain Professional Development (PD) points to maintain your certification.
*this does not impact any coach who has “in training” or “trained” status

Why do I need to maintain my certification?
Maintenance of certification, through proof of ongoing learning (Professional Development) and active coaching is essential to developing the best athletic performance from our athletes as well as and the integrity of the NCCP.
 


What qualifies for points towards Maintenance of Certification?


 

How can I accumulate PD points?

There are many ways to accumulate points. Events that are organized by the PGA, Golf Canada, Provincial Associations and PGA of Canada zones, Coaching Association of Canada or Provincial/ Territorial Coaching Representatives will all advertise the number of PD points associated with the event.
 


How do I submit points?

Any event hosted by PGA of Canada (zones included) or Golf Canada (Provincial Associations included) will already be submitted for PD points on your behalf,. The important thing to remember as a Certified coach is to ensure the event has received approval by one of the above organizations as retroactive events cannot be accepted.
 


What events can I self-report?

Actively coaching is one of the points coaches can self-report each year on your own behalf and reported directly through the Coaching Association of Canada. Simply login to www.coach.ca  and on the left hand side of your transcript you will see a “self-report” section, click here and follow the prompts.

Coach self-directed activity (examples above) will be available for self-reporting on The Locker in 2015.
 


How do I know if something qualifies?

If you are attending an event being hosted by one of Golf Canada’s Provincial Associations or a PGA of Canada zone, ask the staff hosting the event if it has already been approved for PD and how many points the event is worth.

Many events hosted by one of the above organizations will have the following logo attached to its communication.

Note: effective April 1, 2015, retroactive PD will not be accepted by the Coaching Association of Canada. All events must be sent to the PGA of Canada and pre-approved before attending in order to count towards your PD points.

What are the minimum requirements for me as a golf coach or instructor to retain my NCCP Certification?



 
*note: you have 5 years after you gain certification to accumulate the minimum number of points for your given context.
 


When can I start accumulating points?

Any events you attended from January 1, 2014 and onwards will qualify and retroactively must be submitted by April 1, 2015. The first cycle where Certification could potentially expire is December 31, 2019.
 


Can I get PD points if I attend a conference or course in another country?

Eventually. This type of event is categorized as “Self-directed” and is not currently set up within The Locker at this time. Again, before you attend any event, we encourage you to first contact the PGA Education Department to pre-approve the event for Professional Development points.
 


How can I check how many PD points I have?

Your PD points will appear on your transcript as long as your profile information (name, NCCP#, etc.) has been recorded correctly with the organizer of the event, and your profile is up-to-date on coach.ca. You can check your profile and points by logging into coach.ca and using your NCCP# to check your transcript. Remember that PD points will only appear on your transcript after the data has been entered in the Locker.

When you are on your NCCP transcript, on the left hand side there is a section called ‘Maintenance.’ Click here and follow the prompts. Any questions regarding the points recorded can be directed to Matt Allen at matt@pgaofcanada.com
 


What if I attend an event and report it to the PGA for PD points afterwards?

PD events cannot be accepted retroactively and be included in your transcript. It is very important to ensure through the PGA of Canada, Golf Canada, Coaching Association of Canada, and any of its affiliates that events you attend have be pre-approved before attending.

Any events hosted outside of the above organizations are not currently ready to be counted towards your PD points. Once these are made available, the PGA will send a message out on this update immediately.
 


What happens if I do not meet the minimum number of points?

The coach/instructor’s transcript will show your “Certified” status has not been renewed. Further details on renewing your Certification will be available shortly.

This is why it is very important for PGA members/Candidates for Membership to stay on top of reporting any professional development events you attend as retroactive points cannot be added.
 


What if I am certified in other sports and/or multiple contexts in golf?

The PD points you earn will apply to both sports’ requirements.  The coach needs to accumulate the highest number of required PD points

You only need to earn the higher number of required PD points. For example, if you have “Certified” status in both Instruction contexts, you will need to acquire 20 points to maintain your Certification in both contexts.
