Rising Star Graham DeLaet Becomes Canadian PGA Member and Author of 2009 Blog

ACTON, ON (March 23, 2009) – As announced this past weekend on the inaugural Canadian PGA Radio Show, Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, SK, has become one of the newest Canadian PGA Members and author of a new weekly blog on www.cpga.com. The online blog will feature DeLaet as he gives an inside the ropes commentary on what should be a groundbreaking season for the rising star.

27-year-old DeLaet has been on an absolute tear since last August when he won the Montreal Open on the Canadian Tour in a playoff over George Bradford and Daniel Im. He followed the win with a 2nd place finish a week later at the Jane Rogers Championship in Mississauga, ON and then another 2nd place finish a few weeks after at the Canadian Tour Championship in Barrie, ON.

DaLaet’s strong play gave him the opportunity to represent Canada with fellow Canadian Tour Member and friend Wes Heffernan (Calgary, AB) at the 2008 World Cup of Golf in China. DeLaet and Heffernan represented Canada well, finishing in a tie for 13th place in a field of 28 nations.

“I’m thrilled to be a Member of the Canadian PGA and I can’t wait to get the season underway in North America,” said DeLaet, who won a remarkable ten collegiate tournaments while at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. “The experience I’ve had in the last few months playing golf around the world should be great preparation for the 2009 season.”

DeLaet’s success in Canada gave him the opportunity to play in select events on the Sunshine Tour in South Africa. He did not waste the opportunity, finishing T-12th in his first two events - the Joburg Open and the Africa Open Golf Challenge. He took it up another notch with two back-to-back nail biting 2nd place finishes in the Vodacom and Telkom Championships. As proof to how well he has played, DeLaet was at an unbelievable 53 under-par in his four events in South Africa, including three rounds of 64 or less.

A graduate of the RCGA National Amateur Team, DeLaet’s impressive play has vaulted him up on the Official World Golf Ranking list. He is now ranked 245th in the world and the 3rd highest Canadian behind only Mike Weir and Stephen Ames.

DeLaet will be updating his blog on the Association’s National website after each event, writing stories detailing his experiences traveling around the globe.

DeLaet was featured on the inaugural Canadian PGA Radio Show this past Saturday, March 21st on TALK820 AM and online at http://www.talk820.com/. The show runs every Saturday morning from 10 am to 11 am EST showcasing captivating interviews with Canadian golf industry leaders.

Watch for DeLaet’s first blog appearing on the Canadian PGA website www.cpga.com after the opening event on the Canadian Tour.
