Canadian PGA Announces 2008 Scholarship Winners

As many of the following students pack up and head to university, the Board of Directors of the Canadian Professional Golfers' Association, we would like to congratulate the following recipients of the 2008 Canadian PGA Scholarship. This $2000 scholarship is intended to encourage and promote the attainment of higher educational goals for the children and grandchildren of Canadian PGA Members. The recipients were awarded the scholarship based on their academic achievement and contributions to their community.

3) Danielle Ludeman daughter of Mark Ludeman of Edmonton, AB
4) Kendra Morrow daughter of Ken Morrow of Outlook, SK
5) Devon Shields daughter of Charles Shields of Okotoks, AB
6) Travis Herkel son of Christopher Herkel of Smithers, BC
7) Heather Wogden daughter of Bill Wogden of Barrie, ON

Trent Knapp is entering his second year at the University of Regina in the faculty of Business Administration. Trent had a very successful first year in university, attaining a very high year end average placing him on the Dean’s Honour List which is reserved for only the top students in the Faculty. Trent has also received an Academic Silver Scholarship in addition to this second Canadian PGA scholarship. He hopes to one day become a golf professional.

This is the second consecutive year that Shauna Panton has won the Canadian PGA Scholarship. Shauna is entering her second year at the University of British Columbia studying Human Kinetics. Shauna received the high school Female of the Year award, 2007 Valedictorian award as well as the Carol Meredith Memorial Award for Sportsmanship and Leadership in Athletics. In addition to her Canadian PGA Scholarship, she received the President’s Entrance Scholarship at UBC as well as the Wigen Memorial Bursary and B & J Chester Bursary.

Recipient of the 2006 Canadian PGA Scholarship, Danielle Ludeman is attending University of Alberta studying Biological Sciences. In 2007, Danielle received the Dean’s Commendation for high achievement at the University of Queensland, Australia in 2007 where she was participating in a Marine Biology exchange program. She recently was a research assistant at the University of Alberta studying the ecology of glass sponge reefs.

Kendra Morrow, recipient of the Canadian PGA 2006 scholarship, is attending University of Saskatchewan studying Microbiology and Immunology with the hopes of entering Medical School at the end of her third year. This year Kendra was also awarded a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada University Undergraduate Student Research Award which acts as a funding mechanism for her summer research in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Kendra is an extraordinary athlete and is hoping to compete with the varsity cross country team once again this season.

Devon Shields is a first time recipient of the Canadian PGA Scholarship and is heading into her first year at Faculte Saint-Jean at the University of Alberta this fall where she will be enrolled in the Bachelor of Science program where 70% of her course material in the French language. Her goal is to go to Medical School in hopes of working towards becoming an active member of Doctors without Borders. Devon has also received two additional scholarships this year and was a member of Costa Rica Mission 2008 helping out the local orphanage and community.

Travis Herkel is also a first time recipient of this scholarship and is heading into his first year at university. Travis is extremely involved in both academic and athletic activities inside and outside of his school. Travis is the district champion of the Euclid Math Competition and has won numerous awards in chemistry and mathematics at his high school. Travis is hoping to become an engineer to fulfill his interest in logistical calculations and practical design.

Heather Wogden is a first time recipient of the Canadian PGA scholarship and is heading into her first year at University of Waterloo this fall. Heather is looking to complete the Science and Business Co-op program in hopes to attend medical school and open up her own practice in the future. Heather has also received three additional scholarships this year to help her achieve her academic goal.
