ACTON, ON (July 24, 2008) – Salimah Mussani is returning to the Toronto area to defend her National Championship title August 6th to 8th at the 2008 Canadian PGA Women’s Championship presented by NIKE Golf at Credit Valley Golf and Country Club in Mississauga, ON.

Last year, Mussani clinched the title by one shot over 2006 champion and first round leader Marie Josée Rouleau (St. Lambert, QC) to take home her first Canadian PGA Women’s Championship trophy, shooting rounds of 70-72 for a 142 (-2) tournament total.

“We are extremely excited to have Salimah return to play in the Canadian PGA Women’s Championship,” stated Brad Moyer, Tournament Director for the Canadian PGA. “Salimah is such a talented athlete and will be an exciting player to watch this year especially as the competitive field continues to grow.”

Mussani has had quite an impressive career to date. She is a two-time winner of the Ontario Junior Championship (1995, 1996) and two-time winner of the Canadian Junior Championship (1996, 1998). She is the winner of the 1997 Texas 5A Championship and recorded five top-10 finishes in collegiate competition while at Stanford University. Mussani was a Member of the 2000 NCAA Women's Golf Championship runner-up team and also competed in the 2003 U.S. Women's Open Championship.

Other than claiming the Canadian PGA Women’s Championship last year, Mussani has been very successful in the Canadian golf scene recording two wins respectively on the 2005 and 2006 CN Canadian Women’s Tour. Mussani was also a force on the Duramed FUTURES Player’s Tour (LPGA development Tour) in 2006 when she won the Michelob ULTRA in Decatur, Ill. In 2007, Mussani had two top ten finishes on the Duramed FUTURES Tour; she placed fourth at the Lakeland Classic and tied for third at the El Paso Golf Classic.

Currently, Mussani is the assistant coach for Stanford University women’s golf team, where she lead the players to seven top ten finishes and one victory in the 2007-2008 season.

The two day 36-hole stroke play championship will be contested on August 6th to 8th, 2008 at Credit Valley G&CC in Mississauga, Ontario. The 21st edition of the event, which will also be open to foreign players for the first time, offers a purse of $70,000.

Along with opening the field to foreign players, the event is receiving a makeover of sorts as amateurs and professionals can be fitted and demo NIKE Golf’s innovative products before the Simmlands Insurance Pro-Am on August 6th, which will be followed by a NIKE Golf fashion show. Pro-am participants will also be eligible to win a NIKE Golf makeover.

Past champions include Lori Kane (’96,’97,’98,’99 & ’01), Nancy Harvey (’94,’95 & ’00) and Alena Sharp (’04).
The deadline for players to confirm their intention to compete at the 2008 Canadian PGA Women’s Championship presented by NIKE Golf is Thursday, July 31st, 2008.

Player confirmations and announcements will continue in the weeks leading up to the event.

The event is free for spectators to attend.
