- Canadian PGA to Partner with Foundation to Raise Awareness-

ACTON, ON (May 15, 2008) - The Canadian PGA is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada (PCRFC) to raise awareness of prostate cancer—the most common cancer in men.

“The Canadian PGA is thrilled to be partnering with such a tremendous charitable cause,” stated Steve Carroll, Executive Director of the Canadian PGA. “Prostate cancer is a disease that has affected many of our Members as well as an alarming number of Canadians over the years and it is our goal to help reverse the trend.”

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men with over 24,000 Canadian males being diagnosed in this year alone. Currently, one in seven men are expected to be diagnosed in their lifetime and one in 27 will die from the disease.

The Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada raises funds and awareness across Canada to educate men about the threat of the disease and fund leading-edge research into the prevention, detection, treatment and a cure for prostate cancer. The Foundation has invested more than $17 million in research and public education over the past 11 years.

“Our mandate includes widespread outreach to our target audience—specifically, men over the age of 40. This group constitutes the at-risk demographic for prostate cancer,” said John Blanchard, President and CEO, Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada. “We’re pleased to partner with the Canadian PGA in getting the message out to guys on the links and in the clubhouses across the country.”

By partnering with the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada, the Canadian PGA will participate in a variety of events that will help raise funds to battle the disease on two fronts; through building awareness and creating funds for research.

To kick off the partnership, the Canadian PGA will nationally promote awareness of the disease on Fathers Day, June 15, 2008 through Canadian PGA Member participation at various golf facilities. Entitled “Round for Dad”, Canadian PGA Professionals and their facilities that participate will be facilitating donations on behalf of their clubs to support this tremendous cause.

“We are very excited to partner with the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada,” stated Jeff Dykeman, Manager of Business Development for the Canadian PGA. “Over 95 per cent of prostate cancer cases are curable if detected and treated in the earliest stages and it is our hope that our partnership can help educate our Membership and the Canadian golfing public to go and get tested.”

The Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada has a history of strong golf partnerships through charity tournaments with Golf Town, Mercedes-Benz, Mr. Lube, Shoppers Drug Mart and community groups across the country.

Already this year, the Canadian PGA generously donated funds towards prostate cancer research instead of providing gifts for guests at the 2008 President’s Dinner honouring Past President Warren Crosbie – Head Professional at Bayview Golf & Country Club in Thornhill, Ontario.
