PGA of Canada Partners with Respect Group Inc.

The PGA of Canada is excited to announce an alliance with Respect Group Inc.

The partnership will offer three platforms for PGA of Canada members:

  • Activity Leader Program
  • Parent Program
  • Respect in the Workplace

The training platform addresses critical issues focused on child protection, organizational culture and the prevention of maltreatment while serving as proactive risk management tools.

“The PGA of Canada has shown significant leadership by implementing these programs in an effort to ensure a safe and healthy culture free from bullying, abuse, harassment and discrimination,” said Respect Group Inc.’s, co-founder Wayne McNeil.

As part of this partnership, all new Candidates for Membership (CFMs) joining the Association will be required to complete the Respect in Sport – Activity Leader Program as part of their application process. Furthermore, the program will now be a requirement to gain ‘Certified Status’ in the coach contexts of the PGA’s National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).

All PGA of Canada members are encouraged to integrate Respect in the Workplace for staff training and orientation and Respect in Sport – Parent Program for members leading junior programming through the association’s professional development platform.

“This new partnership with Respect Group Inc., will help the PGA of Canada support leaders, managers and coaches on the prevention of abuse, bullying and harassment in the workplace and in sport,” said the PGA of Canada’s CEO Gary Bernard.

This partnership comes from the PGA of Canada’s commitment to The Responsible Coaching Movement (RCM), a multi-phase system-wide movement, coordinated by the Coaching Association of Canada and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport. The RCM is the result of extensive ongoing consultation with the Canadian Sport Community. These consultations will guide the different phases of the RCM by addressing the role coaches play with issues relating to the health and safety of athletes, both on and off the field of play.

Respect Group has certified nearly 1-million Canadians and the PGA joins a wide range of organizations committed to providing a respectful sport and work environment for members, athletes, coaches, parents, staff and board members.
