Levesque Shoots to the Top of PGA of Canada Player Rankings

The PGA of Canada Player Rankings presented by RBC saw a major shakeup following the PGA Championship of Canada sponsored by Mr. Lube and presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf.

By virtue of his T9 at Victoria Golf Club at the PGA Championship of Canada, Dave Levesque of Club de golf La Vallee du Richelieu overtook Billy Walsh for the No. 1 spot.

“Being the No. 1-ranked player in the PGA of Canada is something I’m very proud of and I’ll remember it for the rest of my life,” Levesque said. “I’ve put in a lot of hard work, as well as had a lot of confidence, discipline and focus over the past number of years.”

By virtue of his No. 1-ranking, Levesque earns an exemption into this year’s RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ont., July 18-24.

“For me, playing in the RBC Canadian Open means that I have a shot at winning my national championship, $1-million prize money and I honestly believe that I can win,” Levesque said. “In the past, the process of getting comfortable on that stage always took me at least six-to-eight holes. This year, I have the goal to become comfortable in two or three holes, so the damage isn't too big and I can start working towards the top of the leaderboard.”

Levesque has played in two previous RBC Canadian Opens—2000 at Glen Abbey and 2014 at Royal Montreal.

Walsh and Bryn Parry, Danny King and Oliver Tubb round out the top five of the PGA of Canada Player Rankings presented by RBC.

Other big movers after the recent PGA Championship of Canada sponsored by Mr. Lube and presented by TaylorMade-adidas golf, include the championship’s winner Marc-Etienne Bussieres who is now ranked No. 8, up from No. 21. Philip Jonas, who finished third in Victoria, moved up 84 spots and is now ranked No. 43.

The PGA of Canada Player Rankings presented by RBC are based on a three-year rotation, meaning any points earned in 2013 will be lost at the conclusion of that same event in 2016. 

PGA of Canada members can accumulate points from four championships per year, however, if members play in more than two championships within ‘Categories A, B, C and D,’ they will only receive points for the two events with the highest point totals.
