The Big Four

It was a tourism board type of day Wednesday at the Victoria Golf Club for the PGA Championship of Canada sponsored by Mr. Lube and presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf.

Billy Walsh, Bryn Parry, Phil Jonas and Marc-Etienne Bussierres took advantage of the perfect conditions and punched their ticket to the final day of the championship.

The No.-1 seeded Bussieres of Club de Golf Longchamp captured the Stan Leonard bracket, while Hazelmere Country Club’s Phil Jonas won the Al Balding bracket. Bussieres and Jonas will square off in the first semi-final match at 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Bryn Parry won the George Knudson bracket, with Billy Walsh taking down the Moe Norman bracket. The Parry versus Walsh semifinal will be a rematch of the 2013 PGA Championship of Canada final, where Parry was victorious.

“It’s a fun golf course and I really enjoy it out there,” Walsh said about the 1893 A.V. Macan seaside links gem. “If you give me one golf course in Canada that I can play for the rest of my life I’d probably have to pick Victoria.”

The two winners will play in the championship’s final match Thursday afternoon, with the winner taking home the historic P.D. Ross Trophy and the first place prize of $15,000.

The player who sits atop the PGA of Canada Player Rankings presented by RBC at the conclusion of this week earns an exemption into this year's RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Ont.

Currently, Walsh sits No. 1 on the player rankings with 286 points, ahead Dave Levesque and Parry.

Founded in 1893, the Victoria Golf Club was designed by A.V. Macan. Victoria was ranked No. 28 on SCOREGolf’s 2014 Top 100 Golf Courses in Canada list. The seaside links venue boasts craggy shorelines, lush fairways, challenging ocean breezes and undulating greens, which conjure up images of historic links venues in Scotland.

Attendance to the PGA Championship of Canada sponsored by Mr. Lube and presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf is free and spectators are encouraged to attend during tournament play.
