Coach Camp Returns

Coach Camp Returns

With the growth and momentum of coaching as a new viable career, many teaching professionals are now balancing delivering critical core instructional skills along with new coaching techniques to support the development of young promising athletes. With these recent changes, some teaching professionals are now transitioning to a full-time coaching career. Before any full transition can happen many teaching professionals are looking to further develop their coaching competencies.

Attending the Coach of Developing Competitors (CDC) Workshop will support teaching professionals develop these coaching skills but registration closes in just two weeks, on January 18th.

Check out the PGA of Canada's Technical Director Glenn Cundari's piece in the Long Term Player Development entitled the Great Debate--What is the Difference Between an Instructor and a Coach.

CDC, which is in the competition stream of the National Certification Program (NCCP), takes place Feb. 1-6, 2016 at the PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance (PGA Village), Port St. Lucie, Fla.

This year’s impressive cast of world-renowned facilitators includes three Team Canada coaches in Derek Ingram, Tristan Mullally and Robert Ratcliffe; the University of Calgary’s Dean of Kinesiology, Dr. Penny Werthner; Team Canada physiotherapist and strength coach, Greg Redmond; The Golf Lab’s head teaching professional Liam Mucklow; and the PGA of Canada’s technical director Glenn Cundari.

The cost for the CDC workshop is $2,000, however, for those interested in attending there are numerous avenues for financial support available. PGA of Canada bursaries are available for funding of up to $500, while all coaches  have automatic access to NCCP workshop bursaries through their provincial/territorial coaching representatives. Additionally, PGA of Canada members have the option to pay in segments for the CDC workshop by creating a customized payment plan with the association’s education department.

Any PGA of Canada member is able to attend this workshop, as there is no pre-requisites or prior training required.

NCCP training (which includes CDC) is the only golf coaching certification program recognized by leading sport organizations like Sport Canada and the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), and has generated interest from PGA’s and golf associations around the world.

More information about the Coach of Developing Competitors context, career paths and case studies—both in and out of the industy—can be found in PGA of Canada’s Career Coach Guide, Building a Career in Coaching Golf digital publication. The one-of-a-kind document, which is aimed at members who have chosen coaching golf as a career, probes into what it means to be a coach rather than a teacher, including learning how to coach and the PGA of Canada’s teaching and coaching framework.

Hotel accommodations have been arranged at Residence Inn by Marriott, St. Lucie West (1920 SW Fountainview Blvd.) at a rate of $99(USD)/night, with a block of rooms available for PGA of Canada members until January 15th.
