Apply Now to Become a National Junior Golf Development Centre

The deadline to apply to become a National Junior Golf Development Centre (NJGDC) is quickly approaching.

A NJGDC has no start-up costs and can operate at private, public or municipal golf courses, however, only PGA of Canada members who are trained in Coach of New Competitors (CNC) or Coach of Developing (CDC) should apply by April 1.

NJGDCs are established to recognize facilities that are offering a first class experience for children aged 5-18. They support and run nationally endorsed programs, have trained and certified PGA professionals and are linked to schools in their communities. NJGDCs are also used for talent identification purposes for those competitive golfers seeking to play on provincial teams .

Each NJGDC is provided with Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) compliant programming to use as a guide, in addition to being recognized as a best in class junior golf development facility in Canada and increase marketing efforts to supports programming at the NJGDC facility. A library of resources and professional development opportunities designed specifically for NJGDC facilities are available to assist in providing the best programming for each NJGDC.

The curriculum framework looks similar to an inverted pyramid, with a goal to have a large base of players feeding into the Canadian golf system with stage appropriate programming. As a player progresses, he or she will filter through the stages of NJGDC programs becoming more specialized as he or she progresses.

The player and his or her family will have a choice on whether they want to be involved in programming that is more competitive in nature or a stream of programming more geared to recreational participation.

The competition stream will be run by PGA of Canada members who have been trained and certified through golf’s National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Competition Stream—as part of the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC)—while both PGA of Canada members and Community Golf Coaches will administer the recreation stream.

With a vision of establishing a network of NJGDCs across Canada, this initiative provides PGA of Canada members with a platform to develop or grow their current programming and benefit from a national program with growing resources made available
