Bobby Breen and Bill Kerr to be inducted into Ontario Golf Hall of Fame

The Golf Association of Ontario will welcome four new members, including PGA of Canada members Bill Kerr and Bobby Breen, to the Ontario Golf Hall of Fame in 2015.

Breen was born in Guelph, Ont., in 1939, and became a PGA of Canada member in 1960. He was a three-time PGA Tour Canada winner and played in 10 Canadian Opens. Breen also captured 17 PGA of Ontario senior’s tiles and won the PGA of Canada Super Senior Championship three times. In addition to his individual success, Breen also represented Ontario, 23 times in the Ontario/Quebec Titleist Cup Matches.
The longtime Brampton, Ont., resident began working in the industry in 1961 as an assistant professional at Kleinburg Golf Club and Pine Valley Golf Club (now The National Golf Club of Canada). He would move on to become the head professional at Malton Golf Club (now Castlemore Golf & Country Club) and later at Glen Abbey Golf Club, Erin Heights Golf Course and Derrydale Golf Course.

Breen passed away this past August. At the time, he was serving as ambassador and teaching Professional at the Brampton Golf Club and the Mississaugua Golf & Country Club.

Bill Kerr immigrated to Ontario soon after his birth in Lisburn, Ireland in 1911.

Kerr served as PGA of Canada President from 1955-1958. He was also a two-time Quebec Golf Association President.

He had numerous affiliations to Ontario courses between 1928 and 1946, before becoming the head professional at Beaconsfield Golf and Country Club in Quebec.

Kerr captured the 1945 PGA Championship of Canada, a feat he would go on to replicate in 1960. Throughout his career, Kerr played in six Canadian Opens, won two PGA Seniors’ Championship of Canada titles and was a five-time winner in the PGA of Quebec Zone.

Kerr passed away in 1997.

Breen and Kerr will be posthumously inducted at a ceremony taking place on May 6, 2015 at Wooden Sticks Golf Club in Uxbridge, Ont.

The Ontario Golf Hall of Fame is dedicated to the recognition of extraordinary contributions and accomplishments in the game of golf in Ontario.
