Randy Robb leads PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada

Players faced tough conditions Monday at SunRidge Canyon Golf Club in Fountain Hills, Ariz.

When play was suspended due to darkness partially through the first round of the Titleist & FootJoy PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada, Alberta’s Randy Robb sat atop the leadberboard.

Robb, who won the 1990 PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada, is currently the only player in the field at even-par after posting a 71 in the sixth group of the day.

However, nearly 40 players are within five shots of the lead including 2003 PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada winner Brett Burgeson, Ontario’s Matt Peavoy, Brian Guenther of Manitoba, and B.C.’s Jeff Buder and Doug Morgan who are all at 1 over.

The full-field of 109 players features eight past winners—Adam Chamberlain, Brian Hutton, Roger Beale, Eric Landreville, Danny King, Ian Doig, Brett Burgeson and Graham Gunn. In addition to the eight past champions in the field, 41 golfers are ranked inside the top 100 of the PGA of Canada Player Rankings presented by RBC.

The field will be cut to the low 70-players and ties after completion of the second round.

In addition to competing for the overall championship trophy, players in the PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada earn much-coveted ranking points with hopes of moving up on the PGA of Canada Player Rankings presented by RBC. Players who are ranked inside the top 64 following the Titleist & Footjoy PGA Club Professional Championship of Canada earn invites into the following year's PGA Championship of Canada sponsored by Mr. Lube and presented by TaylorMade-adidas Golf.

The Inter-Zone Team Championship, which is comprised of four players per zone (and three scores per team counting), is also handed out after 36-holes.
