Glenn Cundari wins National Award for contributions to Coach Development

The Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) recently announced the PGA of Canada’s Technical Director Glenn Cundari is this year’s winner of the National Coach Developer Award presented by Investors Group.

This award, created in 2012, recognizes an outstanding individual who has gone above and beyond to inspire and develop National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) coaches in their community. It is awarded to one national winner every year.

“This award was created two years ago to nationally recognize people exactly like Glenn Cundari,” said Alain Roy, Director, Education Partnerships at the CAC. “As a multi-sport Learning Facilitator, and Master Learning Facilitator across all of golf’s three NCCP streams, Glenn’s commitment to sport, development, excellence, and lifelong learning has been fundamental to his capacity to inspire and motivate coaches around him. The CAC is honoured to recognize Glenn with this award.

Cundari has been a great asset and driving force behind the building, maintenance, and future of the NCCP in golf. Not only is he a role model for many coaches and instructors who attend his workshops, he also delivers webinars, conference calls, and resources for the entire coach developer team.

“I’m honoured to be receiving this award. I’m as excited as ever to have coach education discussions with fellow coach developers, coaches, and athletes from many different sports. Professionally, I learn so much from those outside of golf,” said Cundari.

Cundari was part of the original team that developed the Long-Term Player Development Guide for Golf in Canada, and as the PGA of Canada’s technical lead, he contributes to the content development of Golf in Schools, CN Future Links, and helped develop the resource Career Coach Guide – Building a Career in Coaching Golf. Glenn also took the initiative to propose changing the Special Olympics Golf Coach training from a non-NCCP workshop to a new NCCP context moving forward.

“It is great to see him recognized not just for his contributions to golf but for the additions he’s made to bettering coaches and sport in Canada as a whole,” said the PGA of Canada’s Managing Director of Education Morgan Court. “His passion for coaching is immediately recognized with anyone who has come across his path and the PGA of Canada has benefited by having him as a driving force within our organization and sport.”

In addition to his commitment to bettering sport in Canada, Cundari is also a member of the PGA World Alliance Education Committee, which is learning how international golfing countries are educating their coaches and instructors and does mission work in developing golf nations as part of the Royal & Ancient World Golf Development Committee.

John Wiltshire, Senior Vice-President, Marketing at Investors Group said: “Investors Group is committed to recognizing community leaders who inspire others to become active in their communities. We are extremely honoured to present the National NCCP Coach Developer Award to Glenn Cundari for his commitment to coach development.”

Additionally, two other PGA of Canada members were recognized for distinction in their fields with awards at the event.

Receiving Petro-Canada Coaching Excellence Awards were Derek Ingram, head coach of Team Canada’s National Amateur Men’s Team, and Tristan Mullally, head coach of Team Canada’s National Amateur Women’s Team.

Ingram and Mullally are the first two golf coaches to ever receive these awards.

The National Coach Developer Award was presented at the Petro-Canada Sport Leadership Awards gala, which took place in Ottawa on Friday, November 7, 2014.
