Parry leads PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada

Bryn Parry birdied five of his last seven holes and shot a 5-under-par 67 on Tuesday to take the lead in the PGA Assistants’ Championship of Canada presented by Titleist & FootJoy.

The 42-year-old from North Vancouver leads by a shot over a trio of players including Brian McCann, G.W. King and Kyle Kirkland.

“I didn’t think we’d get a 67 out of this golf course to be honest with you,” Parry admitted about the Thomas McBroom designed The Ridge at Manitou in McKellar, Ont.

Parry, a two-time PGA Assistants’ Champion, has a pair of third place finishes this year at the PGA of BC Championship and Canada Cup, as well as a runner up finish at PGA of BC Assistants’ Championship, says he’s looking forward to the challenge of closing the deal this week in McKellar, Ont.

“I feel like I’ve had a couple of events where I’ve played really well and a guy has played even better,” Parry says. “I’ve been pretty happy with my year so far, but to get a win this week is definitely going to be a challenge for the next two days.”

Adam Bruce of Edmonton is fifth after a 3-under-par 69.

Alf Callowhill, Adam Beange, Nick Kenney and Ian Hogg are T6 and sit at two-under.

2013 champion and the No. 1-ranked player from the PGA of Canada Player Rankings presented by RBC, Billy Walsh put together a round of 1-under-par 71. Walsh sits T10 along with Dan McNeely, Greg Pool and Adam Bruce.
