Patriot Golf Day Canada

Patriot Golf Day Canada

As Honourary Chair of Patriot Golf Day I am proud to say I have been involved in this initiative since its inception and I look forward to continuing my involvement for many years to come.

Patriot Golf Day raises money for Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and their families. This year,  funds raised by Patriot Golf Day will go to the Soldier On program.

Patriot Golf Day 2014 will be held across Canada Sept. 2-5. To register for Patriot Golf Day, visit www.patriotgolfdaycanada.com

Soldier On provides resources and opportunities for ill and injured CAF personnel and former personnel to attain and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle through physical fitness, recreation and sport. Soldier On assists the individuals involved in many ways, including the purchase of adaptive sports and fitness equipment and through training and development camps for ill and injured personnel, such as the Soldier On Golf Camp held in Greater Toronto Area this spring by the PGA of Canada.

The Soldier On program achieves a number of aims such as encouraging ill and injured CAF personnel to attain and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. It also supports these personnel in increasing their independence, in developing new skills and in achieving goals. Finally, it furnishes an opportunity for them to socialize and explore common interests and share learning experiences.

I have seen personally the significant impact these programs have on the lives of veterans. One member of the Soldier On Golf Camp told me he didn’t know where he would be without the game of golf.

Supporting Patriot Golf Day is easy and there is no format that must be followed—I have seen several different models that are equally effective. Participating can be as simple as placing a donation jar on the counter or as big as running an event dedicated to raising funds and awareness. One example I have seen be very successful is giving an existing men’s/couples night a Patriot Golf Day theme.

I am very excited to be working with the PGA of Canada again this year on Patriot Golf Day. I deeply appreciate the tremendous efforts of the men and women of the PGA of Canada—you are having a positive impact on the lives of ill and injured veterans. I encourage all members of the PGA of Canada to participate as every dollar raised will make a difference.
