Quebec Open Set to Return

It’s been absent for nearly 20 years, but the Quebec Open is set to make its return this summer.

The Promutuel Insurance Quebec Open presented by Golf de La Faune takes place July 3-6 in Quebec City with a total purse of $100,000. All PGA of Canada members who have participated in a Canada Cup since 2010 are already exempt into the field.

“The return of Quebec Open is fantastic news for PGA of Canada members and I commend the PGA of Quebec for reviving this historic championship,” says PGA of Canada president Constant Priondolo. “I look forward to seeing who can add his name to the list of wonderful PGA of Canada members who have claimed this championship in the past.”

The first Quebec Open was played in 1909 and is the second oldest golf championship in the country behind the Canadian Open.

Former champions of the Quebec Open include PGA of Canada Hall of Fame members Charles Murray, Albert Murray, Jules Huot, Al Balding, Moe Norman, Dave Barr, Dan Halldorson, as well as Quebec golf legends Daniel Talbot, Adrien Bigras and Serge Thivierge.

Also taking place this summer in Quebec is the Sani Marc Canada Cup presented by the City of Victoriaville. The 72-hole championship—with total purse of $175,000—is open only to PGA of Canada Class “A” Members and Candidates for Membership in good standing with one of the nine zones.

The 2014 Canada Cup takes place July 28-Aug. 3 at the Victoriaville Golf Club in Victoriaville, Que.
