Golf Digest names three PGA of Canada professionals to its Best Teachers List

Golf Digest magazine recently named three PGA of Canada professionals to its best teachers outside of the United States list.

Henry Brunton, Derek Ingram and Bruce McCarrol found their name on the exclusive list for 2013-2014 that can be found in the November issue of Golf Digest magazine.

“It’s an honour to be recognized by Golf Digest and to be associated with fellow PGA of Canada Professionals Bruce McCarrol and Derek Ingram and all of the top teachers selected from the U.S. and around the world,” said Brunton, who also made the list in 2011-12.

Both Brunton and McCarrol are Master Professionals, while Ingram is the head coach of Team Canada’s men’s squad.

Ingram says his National Team players and the PGA of Canada’s Education program played a big part in him being recognized.

“I guess it’s an indication the players I coach are getting better and having more quality results, but often it’s a team effort,” he says. “The PGA of Canada’s education programs are great value and have made a nice difference to me as a coach, person and parent.”

A member of the PGA of Canada since 1977, McCaroll has sound advice for his fellow PGA of Canada professionals who want to one day find his or her name on the Golf Digest list.

“The best advice I could give to any of my peers in the PGA of Canada who would like to see his or her name on this same list comes from one of my mentors and world renown teacher and coach Chuck Cook, from Austin Texas, who said to me 25 years ago, ‘Bruce so many want to be good teachers, yet so few are willing to work hard and pay their dues to become one,’” he says. “That counsel resonated with me and I've lived by it ever since,” McCaroll says, adding, “there is no shortcut to becoming a successful, well respected teacher or coach—it’s something earned and there's just no such thing as being an overnight success.”
