Alena Sharp hopes to win her third-straight PGA Women's Championship of Canada presented Nike Golf next week at The Club at North Halton in Georgetown, Ont.

However, the Hamilton, Ont., is up against one of the largest and strongest fields in the championship's history.

"The field next week for the PGA Women's Championship of Canada presented by Nike Golf is definitely one of the deepest fields we've had in a long time," said the PGA of Canada's Managing Director of Championships and Events, Adam LeBrun. "We've got players confirmed from the LPGA Tour, the Symetra Tour, Team Canada members and a number of PGA of Canada members," adding, "whomever wins at North Halton will surely be an impressive champion for besting one of the most impressive fields in Canadian women's golf."

In addition to Sharp, former winners Laura Bavaird (2010) and Oakville, Ont.'s Jessica Shepley (2009) are slated to tee it up.

Jennifer Kirby of Paris, Ont., and Kelowna, B.C.'s, Samantha Richdale, who have both won CN Women's Tour events this season, hope to capture their first PGA Women's Championship of Canada win.

The PGA Women's Championship of Canada was first played in 1987 and past champions include Cathy Sherk, Gail Graham, Nancy Harvey, Lorie Kane and Jessica Shepley.

Sharp has won the championship the past two and looks to become the first three-peat winner since Kane won the championship four years in a row from 1996-1999.
