Canadian Tour Honours PGA of Canada Professionals

The Canadian Tour recently honoured a number of PGA of Canada professionals. 

Mike Weir and Daniel Talbot were named as Life Members, while Ken Tarling, Tom Jackson and Wilson Paterson were all awarded Honourary Life Membership.

This year’s Mr. Lube PGA Seniors’ Championship of Canada sponsored by Cleveland Golf/Srixon winner, Jim Rutledge was also named as a Life Member.

Weir, who has been part of the PGA of Canada’s Tournament Professional division since 1993, won the 2003 Masters Tournament and co-owns the record for PGA Tour victories by a Canadian at eight with the legendary George Knudson. He is a three-time winner on the Canadian Tour.

Montreal’s Talbot, currently ranked No. 22 on the PGA of Canada Player Rankings presented by RBC, is a six-time Canadian Tour champion, winning the Quebec Open three times, as well as the Windsor Charity Classic, the Blue Light Pro-Am and the Saskatchewan Open.

Paterson, Tarling and Jackson are all being honoured for their contributions to the Canadian Tour.  

Jackson is a Canadian Tour past president and holds the distinction of longest serving Canadian Tour Board member in the history of the association, serving from 1987-1992.

In 1983, Tarling represented the newly formed Tournament Professional Division (TPD) was appointed the first Chairman and President of the TPD charged with the task of rebuilding the Canadian Tour.  

A PGA of Canada Life Member, Patterson is the founding force behind the Royal Ashburn Golf Club just north of Whitby, Ont., which hosted to the Canadian Tour's Qualifying School for 34 years.

The Canadian Tour now has a total of 11 Life Members and eight Honourary Life members.

The list of Life Members include legendary PGA of Canada professionals, Al Balding, Moe Norman, George Knudson, Bob Panasik, Dan Halldorson, Dave Barr and Bob Beauchemin.

Honorary life members include Gary Cowan, Dick Grimm, Margaret Beauchemin, and John Saskun Sr.
