PGA Women’s Championship of Canada presented by Nike Golf Field Taking Shape

The field for the 2012 PGA Women’s Championship of Canada presented by Nike Golf is starting to take shape.

LPGA Tour player and last year’s champion Alena Sharp of Brantford, Ont., highlights an already impressive field that includes fellow LPGA Tour players Stephanie Sherlock of Barrie, Ont., and Jessica Shepley of Oakville, Ont.

“As is always the case with this championship, we’re looking at a very strong field, featuring a stellar cast of players from the LPGA and the Symetra Tours, some of the best female amateur golfers in the country, as well as a number of PGA of Canada members ” says the PGA of Canada’s Managing Director of Championships and Events, Adam LeBrun.

Contested over two days—Aug. 29-30—at the Usshers Creek course at The Legends of Niagara in Niagara Falls, Ont., players will compete in the 36-hole championship with a $70,000 purse.

The championship’s winner will also earn an exemption into the 2013 CN Canadian Women’s Open.

Some of the other early commitments to play in the PGA Women’s Championship of Canada field include 17-year old amateur standout Brogan McKinnon; North Bay, Ont.’s, Jacklynn Miller; and Canadian golf legends Cathy Sherk and Mary Jane Hall.

The event gets underway with the Simmlands Insurance Pro-Am on the 27th.
